The US Web Design System is load-bearing infrastructure for thousands of government websites. It makes it easy for small teams with no resources (i.e. most .gov teams) to make usable, accessible websites that work for everyone. Today, it's as close as it's ever been to being replaced with AI slop.

however you feel about the reading code debate as an exercise you should try talking to the LLM and see if you can get to confidence about the code without directly reading the code

I generally agree with this sentiment. Most of my sadness and unhappiness about the automation of software development comes from my genuine interest and passion for the actual coding — understanding the syntax, writing the code, solving problems, etc. Source: x.com/denbvk/stat...

Bootstrap was such an iconic design framework and moment in web design and development. It brought loads of good ideas to the table for composable UI design/engineering. Bootstrap was far from perfect, but it helped pave the way for the industry.

I once referred to React as the actual “LEGO brick for adults.” But in reality it was more the description of the geometry of the bricks. The spec.

Shadcn is what people actually wanted from React. Reusable high quality components that also tunable. It’s a pseudo-library. There’s code but it’s actually meant to be digested into your context window and remixed."

This post is also a good example of how folks who enjoy prompting/building are not representative of the broader user base. Just because one enjoys something doesn't mean they want to spend their time building it. Some will, but I imagine most will not.

Instead, what seems most likely to me is that the quality bar for game studios will be much higher across the board. Making an average video game will be easier than ever, so I imagine game studios will focus more on providing unique, high-quality experiences.

While I understand the sentiment behind this post, I don't think most people have the necessary skills to build a well-designed, well-written, engaging game. These skills take years to develop, and AI can only help so much, unless you're making copycat games. Source: x.com/NickADobos/...
@NickADobos on Twitter: "I’m pretty sure gaming as a category is dead because everyone is just gonna build their own games

Games don’t have ongoing maintenance cost like companies replacing SaaS vendors

Perhaps an argument for wanting someone else to build an experience for you, easier to watch a movie than create one.

But video games and vibe coding are so close the difference between creating the form and playing in a form is getting closer and closer to zero.

So why play someone else’s game?

From the article, "Don't be a meat proxy": "By all means, prompt AI. But don't just relay the output. Read it, understand it, validate it, and then write a response in your own words (a decent certificate that you've done the prior steps). Making that effort is value you can add."

Dax is on point. If you know what you're doing, you should now be able to use LLMs as a helpful partner in many software engineering workflows (esp web dev ones), and you should be able to explore problem domains to produce better solutions. Source: x.com/thdxr/statu...
@thdxr on Twitter: "you now have the ability to
- play with every possible solution to a problem
- refactor everything when you think of better patterns

so many people complaining about the code the LLMs produce, if you're not producing the best software of your life right now something is wrong"

I think Grady is on point. We already see models like Kimi K3 disrupting the moat surrounding OpenAI and Anthropic. This is a good thing and will continue with further commoditization and increased competition. Source: x.com/Grady_Booch...
@Grady_Booch on Twitter: "In the fullness of time, LLMs will eventually become commodities and their price will be a race to the bottom. As the competitive advantage of one LLM over another shrinks - particularly as open source models expand - the value proposition will turn to the neuro/symbolic harnesses that use those models, structures that encompass agents, agent orchestration, tooling, and component plugins. Even those from frontier AI organizations will fall to open source frameworks. The last thing standing will be those who command the data centers on which these things run, and even then, that will become a commodity, with the number of players shrinking to just a few survivors. They too will find pressure: as computational power rises, more and more such systems will be run locally."

@antirez on Twitter: "It is my belief that many devs right now are not maximizing what they can do with automatic programming because they still look at the code. Doing it makes you the bottleneck. Your time is better invested in new ideas, QA, design, and asking yourself what is your goal."

My brother, who did time for dealing, once lost his shit when he found a joint in my niece’s room. I think about this every time a university who made a deal with OpenAI punishes their students for cheating. Or anytime the NBA, awash in DraftKings money, punishes a player for gambling.

I find the narrative of “coding being solved” pretty disingenuous. It’s clearly a marketing ploy designed to rewrite history, as if all that ever needed to happen to build software was “writing code”, which is obviously not the case. I mean, was “coding solved” when compilers were invented?
