Toward the end of leasing our pasture to a no good neighbor who had 12 cows, part of which involved an agreement to maintain fences built into the pricing, which he never did, guess who got phone calls about cows on other people's property at 2 AM yup not him

This thread is the perfect encapsulation of why a) I don't understand people whose "fun retirement project" is farming and b) I knew I never wanted to move back to my family farm especially if it involved livestock, all you do is fix fences and get calls about loose (cows, horses, etc)

i resent how there's a stable of a couple dozen dudes whose whole thing is 'has a racist blog' & they regularly get mainstream newspaper and magazine profiles. i have trouble keeping track of them all, i'm like 'what did he do again' & check his wikipedia & it's ah, has a racist blog, that's all

So is The Gentleman supposed to be winky winky allusions to The Godfather or is Guy Ritchie just ripping off all the bits he likes and rearranging them as he feels like it

The more words used and the more passive the voice the shittier it is. Our budget transmittal uses the phrase (i may get this slightly wrong, I looked several hours ago) "involuntary staff reductions in force." How many words do you need to use before it doesn't sound like "layoffs"

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

this is concerning enough that I'm going to ask about this or similar policies/practices before agreeing to speak to ANY journalist on or off the record. if you can't promise me in writing that this isn't happening, that's the end of the conversation.

That anyone has any smoke for Tom Morrello speaks to the stupidly binary relationship many ppl in the US have to voting as the singular valid form of political expression & that they have less than no context for his incredibly political art or his amazing family's influence on int'l politics.

software is not a coworker, it is not an employee, I don't care if it has a cute avatar or a human sounding name, or a way to interact with it via a human sounding voice. I love Bladerunner as much as the next person but my god.

It is the start of Banned Books Week and as such it's an EXCELLLLENT moment to donate to @authorsabb.bsky.social. We are laser focused on tbe single issue of fighting book bans. It's hard work, and we've done it with all volunteers for about 3 years-- and now we finally have a program manager.

Talk now about what you will do if there is a bad power outage, esp one that might last a while. How will you meet up and communicate if the cell towers go down or there is no way to access the internet? How will you get water? Share resources together? Where will you shelter?

We're preparing for many thing, but most pressing is the historic El Niño that is coming this rainy/winter season. It is on track to be very destructive and cause power outages, flooding, etc. (For those who live in fire-prone places, fire seasons following bad El Niños are usually particuarly bad)

I had a vendor demo one of their new tools for creating "automated" metadata for archives and after it confidently informed us that an early 20th c doc from a Jewish tb sanstorium was a mid 19th century Freedmans Bureau Record....not only that, it didn't even produce standard data about file format.

People who work and worked in the trades, especially in things like masonry and bricklaying, it destroys your body over time. The people who are gifted craftsmen could and do make a better living than an "unskilled" (I hate that word, it is often untrue) labor but it comes at a v high cost.

It's infuriating. Both of my parents went on to get doctorates & my dad always described his father, who started in slaughterhouses and became a meat seller for Swift, as one of the most intellectually curious people he ever met. He also worked himself to death bc of how hard that is on your body.
