Key messages from my #rED24 talk yesterday. 1.Few things done well > lots of things done badly 2.Know what and who you are designing for. 3. Beware shiny things and ‘quick wins’ I don’t have a blog or website so full slides can be found on my LinkedIn.

Session 4 looking at why data matters. Really making me reflect on how I can best use data to map professional learning as teachers impact the ‘data’ of pupils in different ways. They make progress in the classroom themselves at different rates. Does great data mean great teaching?!

Session 2 #rED24 Josh Goodrich, and Jon Gilbert. Making tacit knowledge explicit- removing luck and chance from developing expertise. Thinking about how to get our expert teachers to unpack and explain their craft.

Starting off my #rED24 day with @profcoe.bsky.social ‘why we need feedback more than we think’ huge implications for judging teaching and learning from lesson obs and self reflection. “Using video is the most powerful tool when getting a reality check.”

My favourite: “if you don’t know where you’re going, you might wind up someplace else”. Relatable to both the classroom but also so many endeavours we undertake in school, including professional learning.

My 4yos first day of school today ❤️ “Was your teacher nice?” “Yes. But I didn’t respect her” Thought this was exceptionally harsh feedback until I released she didn’t *expect* her - she met a different teacher on transition.

I think it is a real mix to be honest, depending on experience of both line managing and coaching in the past. In any case I would start with a contracting session to go through the expectations of a coaching conversation from both parties.
