I can testify that things are light years better. This was my first guitar that I got when I was 15 or 16. it was probably like $250 and it sucked. It played and sounded shitty. It was embarrassing to own, honestly. My amp was a crappy DOD amp, too. Just putrid. Worst distortion I've ever heard.

I have a cheap Donner that is one of my favorite guitars. It's a pink strat copy and I love it. ended up being like $179. The bucker is a little hot even. If I need a mild tone I switch from the HB to the single coils. There's also a coil split on the bucker if you want a more stratty tone, too.
