How would you describe your social media reach?
A selection of Jane Duncan's My Friend books, now little known. They are all hardbacks, arranged spine on, showing how the colourful drawn illustrations on the original dustjackets wrapped around the spines. The Friends in question are Muriel, Rose, Cousin Emmie, Misses Kindness, the Swallow, Sandy, the Macleans, Annie, My Father, Martha's Aunt, George and Tom, Sashie, the Mrs Millers, the Hungry Generation and from Cairnton. They are not arranged in either publication or chronological order. There's a handful of people that might recognise these and have read them.

Name your fave Disney princess. (Wrong answers only.)
Janet Maw as the adolescent Clara in the last three episodes of the 1982 BBC TV series, Frost in May. She is leaning on the top of five-barred gate, with long wavy, blonde hair down around her shoulders, held partly back with a clip on one side. She is resting her chin on folded arms and her pale face is pensive, evoking a slight air of discontent.

Looks like our partial solar eclipse experience is going to be clouds across the moon across the sun.
A chart of weather symbols for the early evening today, showing full sun at 17:00 (spoilers: it wasn't), cloud partially eclipsing the sun at 18:00 and 19:00, and full sun at 20:00.

The face I'm submitting for my Bluesky verification:
Owl face knitted with eyelash and yarn in shade of brown, with large light brown eyes with feathery white trim and plastic black and white pupils, and dark knitted beak. You'll have seen this before.

It's a fuck of lot older than Bluesky and more than old enough to vote.

Best STAR TREK captain. Wrong answers only.
John Cho as Captain Hossein in The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon. He is looking straight ahead at the camera, with a direct stare. He wears a dark green jacket, above which the popped collar of his shirt and loose neckerchief are showing, both in bright red satin. He's standing on the bridge, where there are people standing at large computer screens in the background, and lots of neon tubing outlining items on the bridge.

So when our laptops and desktops resolutely inform us that the printer, the one that is there where it always has been, cannot be found, it is lesser demons hiding from from the greater demon inside the printer. (This post brought to you by me reading the latest Penric and Desdemona novella.)
The BSD demon from the The Free BSD project. A smiling, curvy, red cartoon demon with large eyes, curved horns and a spiked tail is wearing green Converse sneakers and clutching a small gold pitchfork.

Watching S5:E5 of Slow Horses and right there was a T-shirt with a logo we hadn't seen in a while. Not sure I've ever seen that logo in a TV show before.
Against a dark background, a dark red logo consisting of a circle with the word Fish in swirling calligraphy. The descending stroke of the capital F loops round and swoops to make the head, upper body line and tail of a fish, with a dot for an eye, and the descending tail of the outer stroke of the lower case h circles round to make the lower body line of the fish. Fish was the ex-lead singer of Marillion.

They often destroy the proportions of the room they're squeezed into, especially in older houses. Fewer en-suites and more storage, I say. This is not the most egregious example I've seen, but at four bedrooms and five bathrooms, it runs close:
The ground and first floor floorplans for a relatively new build house. The principal bedroom on the ground floor has an en-suite bathroom, and there is an additional shower room on the ground floor as well. There are three bedrooms on the first floor; two of the them have en-suites, and there is a separate bathroom as well.

Wishing it was the weather for overdecorated heavy jackets and wool suits. The bandage, however, is being worn, even if not as coiffure.
A still from the black and white film of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, from the early, Edwardian set, part of the film. Anton Walbrook is in the centre with a bandage on his head and military uniform. He is holding Deborah Kerr's hand in both his hands. She is on his right. He is looking towards his left where Roger Livesey, is standing. Roger Livesey is doffing a close-curled, feathered hat with a medium brim on Walbrook's bandaged head, while he himself wears a boater trimmed with netting. There are wine glasses on the table in front of them.

Quote with a fictional band that is not Spinal Tap.
Riot Women from the TV series by Sally Wainwright. Seven women, mostly middle-aged, who give no fucks and are staring hard at the camera to let you know it. Six of them sitting, one standing, in a stone garage, with a patterned rug in front of them and another one hanging on the wall behind them. They are wearing casual clothes, jeans and trainers/boots. One of them, Holly, has a guitar on her lap. They are, left-to-right, Holly (Tamsin Greig), Nisha (Taj Atwal), Beth (Joanna Scanlan), Kitty (Rosalie Craig), Jess (Lorraine Ashbourne), Kam (Chandeep Uppal), Yvonne (Amelia Bullmore).

Quote with your vibe if you were a vampire.
Headshot of Anne Reid as Florence Finnegan from the Smith and Jones episode of Doctor Who. She is staring madly with wide-open eyes and raised eyebrows and her lips are parted hungrily. You can see her curly grey hair and the shoulders and shawl collar of her pale blue, fleecy dressing gown. The dressing gown collar is embroidered with dainty pink flowers and green leaves in a chain.

Post your favourite "Lord of the Rings" character(s). Wrong answers only.
Susan (Anna Popplewell) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) from Prince Caspian, in a forest, probably off to join a bacchanal. They are standing left side-on to the camera, with their heads turned to the left. Lucy is behind Susan, holding on to the quiver of arrows which Susan wears along with her bow. Susan is in chain mail; Lucy wears a grey cloak. The Parting at the Grey Havens. Lucy (Georgie Henley), Edmund (Skandar Keynes), Reepicheep, the Prince of the Talking Mice and Eustace (Will Poulter). They are standing in a row on a shore of pale sand, with a rowing boat drawn up on the sand behind them, and a green-blue sea in the distance, under a blue sky, streaked with streamers of white clouds. The children are wearing loose, long-sleeved blousons, tucked into sashes over loose trousers of varying drab shades of olive, tan and brown. Eustace also wears a jerkin. Reepicheep wears his coronet with a curled feather.

I've cropped Aslan out of the shot, because 1) he cropped Susan out of Narnia and 2) there is, therefore, no image of Susan, Lucy, Reepicheep, Edmund and Eustace together.

Miriam Margolyes as Mother Mildred from Call the Midwife. She wears a blue habit, with a wooden cross round her neck, and white wimple, veil and collar. She is resting clasped hands on a wooden cane, staring quizzically towards the left of the frame. There is some simple wooden furniture, including a desk in front of her with papers on it, a rough stone wall with an oil-burning light, and a side table bearing a cross.

A movie couple who would definitely have a podcast.
Selma Blair and Reese Witherspoon as Vivian and Elle from the film Legally Blonde. They are sitting side by side. Vivian wears a light brown, roll neck, wide-ribbed jumper with a khaki jacket open over it and a wonky string of pearls. She is staring very hard straight ahead, in best Paddington fashion. Elle is wearing a dark red, knitted tank top over a patterned blouse with a dark background, with her hair in a half-up style. Her head is tilted to her right and she has a sceptical expression.

post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, sound garden, pearl jam or alice in chains (Ob Elle Woods: What, like it's hard?) Yes, even the song that was number one for yonks, which doesn't stop it being an absolute corker, as well as inspiring the super French and Saunders parody.
Hormonally Yours by Shakespears Sister. The cover is a black and white photograph of the band showing the two women: Marcella Detroit and Siobhan Fahey. Siobhan Fahey is standing in front, looking at the camera, wearing light coloured jeans and a black jumper that has the word 'SEX' in large letters. Her knees are bent, her feet are in fifth position and her hands are in pockets. Marcella Detroit is standing behind Siobhan, with her head leaning on top of Siobhan's. She is wearing dark trousers and jumper. Her left arm stands away from her body and her fingers are flicked out. The head and part of the neck of her guitar are visible, showing from behind Siobhan's right hip but the rest of the guitar is hidden.

I'm minded of the changes in the presentation/perception of Heyer books as per their cover illustrations. For example Heyer's The Talisman Ring, moving from Gothic deathbed scene in the hardback cover to the action of romantic thriller to bland Regency* romance. *It's not a Regency romance.
The hardback dustjacket for The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer. A man wearing a dark pink, silk dressing gown lies in an elaborate four poster bed with red and gold hangings. There is a gold cross by the bed which casts a large shadow against the red walls. Another man stands towards the foot of the bed, bewigged, wearing a blue cloak and riding boots. The scene is theatrically framed by dark curtains. The 1960s Pan paperback of The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer. A young white woman leads a chestnut horse, laden with bandboxes, through a misty, dark wood. There is a shadowy figure in tricorne hat in background. She wears a soft grey hat with curling pink ostrich feather, deep emerald green and gold dress, and red cloak. Her outfit evokes the late 1780s setting of the book. Text on the cover describes the book as "a full-blooded romantic thriller". A 21st century cover of Georgette Heyer's The Talisman Ring. Two young white women sit on a gold brocade sofa. There is a large painting in the background. They are both wearing Empire line silk dresses, one in pale pink and one in pale blue. The woman in the pink dress is leaning against the other and has an arm around her. The Empire line dresses were fashionable some 20-30 years after the book's setting.

Sister Ulrica, the Dutch nun, from the TV series Tenko, as played by Patricia Lawrence. She wears a cream scarf tied round her head, and a light coloured long nightshirt with pale stripes, belted at the waist, with an open collar on a short placket, replacing her replacing her traditional nun's habit. She also has silver and dark wood crucifix around her neck on a long chain. She is smiling, wistfully, pensively, as she leans against a post, with a background of tropical greenery and sand.

What perfect album came out when you were sixteen?
Misplaced Childhood by Marilion, with cover art by Mark Wilkinson.

The cover depicts a standing child wearing a soldier's dress uniform of red jacket with heavy gold embroidery and gold braid, epaulettes with four buttons, blue trousers with a red stripe down the side seam and white gloves. The child's feet are bare and a magpie perches on their right arm. A red poppy grows from the bare ground, close to the child's left leg. A gold ring is standing on edge close to the child's right foot. The background is of turbulent dark and bright clouds, with a bright arc of rainbow to the left.
