TB isn’t just a distant disease. People and pathogens cross borders every day, making global health local. U.S. cases are rising (10,388 in 2024). U of U Health researchers are working to improve detection, treatment, and prevention. bit.ly/4t47wL6
An informative poster about World Tuberculosis Day on March 24. It highlights that 1.4 million lives are claimed annually by TB, making it one of the deadliest diseases. The disease is airborne, significantly affecting the lungs. A global fight against TB requires new medicines and treatments. Insights from researchers emphasize reducing transmission and improving treatment strategies. The poster is from UT Health.

I had a great time talking with @davidcondos.bsky.social about how the rapid development of St. George and encroachment into fragile desert habitats is creating intense dusk exposures, including exposures to the Valley fever fungus. www.kuer.org/health/2025-...

The CDC is removing data sets that researchers widely rely upon because they include information on sexual orientation and gender identity. “It feels like they’re trying to will us out of existence,” one researcher tells @theresagaff.bsky.social: www.statnews.com/2025/01/31/c...

Happy to see this work led by @katwalter.bsky.social out! In #TB outbreaks & high transmission settings, we often see many Mtb genomes that are identical or have 1-2 SNVs. Katharine asked whether we could leverage within host diversity & shared minority variants to better link transmission pairs.
