But alas, all good things must end... After 9 days I left the incredible heat of Toronto! But I brought a lot of lovely, spicy snacks with me home. Both my cats greeted me happily, but were perhaps, even more interested in the postcard that had arrived from another fandom friend! 🥰 Fandom, huh. 🥹🥰❤️

View from an airplane, showing a wing and a sunset over Ontario.

A Chinese postcard featuring a white vase decorated fully with blue Chinese writing. A cream-and-brown-speckled cat with yellow eyes is leaning against the vase. My own cat, a brown tabby with a white chest and paws, is stroking his mouth against the card.

My other cat, who is black with a white speck on the chest, is lying close by (I swear she was totally cozying up to the card until I picked my camera up, the traitor! 🤭).

It was MDZS and the Yizhan fandom that brought my friend and me together, and naturally, my babies (the first gift I received from my friend!) got to meet my friend's dolls! Here they are with some of them. And here I am holding the largest doll, a very sturdy boy indeed! 😍

Two small 6 cm cotton dolls together: A doll with grey fur, bunny ears, black hair, and a pink doll with pig ears and snout and a grumpy expression. They are standing amidst a host of other dolls, all larger than they are. There are four doll representations of Wang Yibo, and three of Xiao Zhan. I guess my friend has a bias 🤭🤭🤭

A huge, sturdy 40 cm doll of Wang Yibo, wearing a black-and-white speckled cow costume complete with cute pink-accented ears, little yellow horns, and a tail (not visible in the picture). His hair is dyed blonde, and he has a chic yellow bandana with a lion around his neck. He's standing on my lap, mouth happily open, and green eyes wide.

I got the opportunity to try a lot of Indian food during my visit, and it was all so delicious. The food my friend made for me was the best, but I literally forgot to take a picture - it was so good, so this food is from a cafe we visited. We also went for a chocolate-making class!

Two tasty dabeli on a tray. Soft bread buns with a spicy potato filling, spicy chutney, peanuts, and sev (which looks a little like sprinkles)

A folded masala dosa - a round crepe-like food with potato filling peeking out from under fold. On a metal tray, together with a small bowl of sambar (lentil stew), and a creamy, white coconut chutney 🤤🤤🤤

Two small 6 cm cotton dolls together: A doll with grey fur, bunny ears, black hair, and a pink doll with pig ears and snout and a grumpy expression. They're looking hungrily at one dark chocolate bar and two milk chocolate bars on a white sheet of paper. The Dark bar is painted with random pink, white, and bright green dots. The first milk chocolate bar has the text EXO in rainbow colors and pink hearts painted on the squares. The second bar's squares are all decorated in different colors.

Back downtown, the babies helped me pick good skincare, and I bought some EXO boypaper and music (Xiumin, Kai, and Chanyeol mini albums!), after which we went to another museum. (We were all stoked to see the dinos 🤭!)

The letters T O R O N T O in white and color, by the Toronto city square, which is mostly cleared out, because the football-related activities that were planned have been canceled due to the heat.

Pride was already sort of over, but I went to the queer quarters in downtown Toronto and saw the remnants of the celebration. There were a lot of Asian restaurants, and I had lunch at a Korean café. Then I went to the Bata Shoe Museum. The babies were awed over these shiny Jimmy Choos!

We visited the Niagara Falls, and the babies got sprayed by pouring water! Luckily, I had them in their plastic bag by then. I did NOT expect the heat that day, wow, I am really not used to this type of weather! So the shower was welcome still, but my shoes were totally drenched for an hour after 🤭

The Niagara's American Falls shot from the Canadian side, with a blue sky, fluffy white clouds, a turquoise river, and a tourist boat on the way past the falls.

Shot from above the Niagara falls with an iron fence, the turqouise river, and the Horseshoe falls in the background. The sky is blue with fluffy clouds, and the babies are totally awed!

Went to Costco for that full NA experience! Saw a lot of palmier cookies and felt a little regretful I didn't bring my sweet Lailai doll! Meanwhile, the dolls I did bring were checking out my friend's merch!

Had a layover in Iceland both directions! Never been there before, and although it was nice to touch down there, I do not recommend Icelandair. Why not? Where do I even start... Well. You can look at my in-flight dinner and imagine the rest 🤭.

View from an airplane window: The brown fields of Iceland below and a cloudy sky above.

A cup of instant oatmeal that looks watery and bland.

Especially these two pieces caught my eye, 'Zwei Frauen, tanzend' (Two women, dancing), and 'Transvestitenlokal' (Transvestite bar), both by Jeanne Mammen. (sorry for my skew pictures, I'm just...not a good photographer 🙈)

Watercolor painting of two women with short hair and dresses á la 1920's fashion, dancing together at a queer club. Other visitors are present in the background.

Watercolor painting of queer club with visitors sitting around tables, many of them looking at a person dancing on a chair in the middle of the painting.

Information about the pantings and the artist:

JEANNE MAMMEN
1890 Berlin, DE - 1976 Berlin (West), DE

'Zwei Frauenm tanzend'
Two women, dancing
ca 1928

'Transvestitenlokal'
Transvestite Bar
ca. 1931
Watercolor and pencil on paper.

In 1920, Jeanne Mammen moved with her sister Mimi into a studio apartment at Kurfürstendamm 29 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Working as a freelance illustrator for numerous magazines and journals – including Die Dame – she was able to support herself through her art. With her light, fluid brushwork and richly textured colour palette, she became the visual chronicler of the »Golden Twenties«. She helped shape the image of the »New Woman«: independent, modern, and sexually self-determined. Her drawings and watercolors most often depict women at work and in Berlin’s nightlife.

'Two Women, Dancing' captures the atmosphere of a queer bar. Berlin was home to roughly 170 such establishments during that period. The title 'Transvestite Bar' employs a term coined in 1910 by Magnus Hirschfeld, a physician, sexologist, and early advocate for queer rights. The word »transvestite« had since become common currency in the city’s subcultures. Mammen’s drawings were also published in Hirschfeld’s publications.

In the Weimar Republic, police even issued a so-called Transvestitenschein (Transvestite Pass). This permit allowed individuals to wear clothing not associated with their assigned gender without risking arrest under public order laws. In this sense, the term carried a protective and emancipatory function at the time, though it is now considered outdated.

I don't often bake, but when I do, it's with Doh Kyungsoo's cookie mold 🤭 #dohkyungsoo #ksoo #dohsrecipe

On a white plate in the sun: Three brown chocolate sugar cookies shaped like a chef's hat and a cookie mold shaped like a chef's hat. The cookie mold is attached to a key ring with an orange silicone chef's hat and a silver metal pendant in the shape of a tomato, engraved with the text "DOH'S RECIPE!"

Song Jiyang's character from cdrama A Dream Within a Dream being so done with listening to people's nonsense, that he's stuffed his ears with wool. Yeah, I feel you Ji Xiang! 🤭

A Chinese man with a blank facial expression, and long hair, black robes and black wrist bracers, is removing what seems to be some kind of wool from his ears.

Watched ep 2 of Beyond Evil. This is such a good rewatch, oh my god. I first finished watching it the 8th of Jan. Then I rated it 8,5/10. After having rewatched the first 2 eps, I must upgrade to 9. I think they were always back there, biding their time. Oh Jihwa, saying it how it is! 😘

This was only the 3rd fic I published, and it was on Twitter. It's gotten an overhaul now, 3 years later, so I'm promoting it since it's Mermay, etc. If you like a bit of a fairytale vibe, it might be for you. It's very much an AU and can be read fandom blind. archiveofourown.org/works/47491417

Summary:
Entranced, the prince draws nearer, his eyes narrowed into suspicious slits. The figure on the throne stirs, and the prince stills in his movement, gills pumping faster along his slender neck.

Then, the swirling tendrils part, and the creature comes into view. The face is pale, the features delicate, cold, and hauntingly beautiful. A set of red, glowing eyes curiously peer at Lan Wangji, and the lush, full lips curl into a cruel smile.

“What have we here? A little prince got lost and found his way to my humble abode. Oh, what shall I do with you, little prince? Why did you come to seek out the Yiling patriarch?”

Or: In search of relief for his aching need, a young mer — Lan Wangji, the second prince of the Misty Abysses of the Gusu Lan expanse, enters the mountain. It is said that an ancient evil dwells within its depths.

Finished ep 37 of The Rebel. Looks like I'm finally going to bring this one ashore this month. What a long, arduous journey it has been... It's worth it, though, for Zhu Yilong's impressive acting. And maybe for shots like this...

A facial of Chinese actor Wang Yang. A handsome Chinese man with wavy dark hair and bangs that messily fall on his forehead. His expression is calculating, and his gaze is...not for the faint of heart. He's wearing a gray Western-style suit jacket.

I watched The Maid yesterday. All of it (because it's 26 x 15 mins). It was like The Double on speed, also with all intrigues, lies, scheming, and deceit, which I'm not so fond of. But I can look away from it because Deng Kai was...he was fine 😳😌 mydramalist.com/781244-bi-nv

Deng Kai, as the Prince Regent from The Maid. A tall Chinese man stares intensely ahead. He has a wig of long black hair, a golden Guan on his head. Dressed in a long, black, gold, and fur-lined coat, a black embroidered hanfu under, and wearing a golden belt. He is holding a freshly fired bow in his left hand. In the background is the interior of a traditional ancient Chinese mansion, and the mansion's guards.
