Yes, it is. We don't learn from the void. When you consume a work, you extract patterns from said work that you generalize and associate with known concepts. These patterns are then recombined in order to create new concepts when you draw or write.

But no one said you can’t or shouldn’t write “problematic” characters or that you shouldn’t write as your heart calls you to. “Disabled person so mad about disability they turn evil” is a super common ableist trope and we are not where we can reclaim it yet. Look at Killmonger, in a similar vein.

“elegantly cheering” is technically okay for 優雅應援 (should be cheering on), but I’d go with “elegantly supporting” or “flawlessly supporting” as a matter of vibe. AM to PM is an awkward choice when dawn to dusk is right there. “Flawlessly supporting your every moment from dawn to dusk”. #translation

Out of habit, I looked at the Montreal Steak Seasoning section at Costco and was pleasantly surprised to see that the formulation looked correct once again (what I am used to). And for a moment I thought they changed the formula back, except right beside it, in almost identical labeling…

I just swept the flat and I’m so relieved at how relatively painless that was, I simply have to share the trick: a “squeegee broom”. It’s one of those triangular affairs with a thin too-firm rubber edge that will squeak abominably if you use it on your car but perfect for the floor. #🥄4️⃣🥄

#editing It is 2025 and I am feeling soul shattered and fragile. Reading over this throwaway line I wrote, I'm not sure I want to set this loss into canon. "Some of those first princesses didn’t return. " Looking at the world today...I don't think I can speak that fate over them.

Being crown princess wasn’t supposed to be easy.
The entire ritual of sending her to wander abroad was based around the notion that the heir to a crown needed to see how it was outside the realm.
What it felt like to be Other, to be at the mercy of the kindness of strangers, to have to carve out a clan using only herself as lure.
“Thank you for coming with me on this journey, Yì. I could not imagine doing it without you,” she said, smiling at him, hoping to soften the harsh glint in those dark eyes.
The first princesses hadn’t brought their personal guards on the qiānlǐqiānxún. They left court with gold, jewels, and a lone warrior picked at random from the ranks.
It wasn’t the most sound idea the royal family had ever had, even if it were the choice made by too-proud princesses rather than the court.
Some of those first princesses didn’t return.
Others came back battered and bloody, but triumphant.
After the third great loss and a near broken royal line, the court and council reconsidered and laid down new rules.

A hooded figure stood beside her, what looked like a tablet in their outstretched hand. “Here. If you’re aware enough to be risking your soul, you might as well fill this form out. It’ll save you some time with the guards.”
“Why have a páifǎng that says something we aren’t meant to know?” she asked.
The figure tipped their head to the side. “Your mind is incapable of parsing the thing and if you try, your mind will not like it. That is not the same. Once your consciousness is more resilient, you will have no trouble. The páifǎng exists because gates are required between one existence and another and names are necessary to bind. It does not exist as a signpost.”
Well, that certainly put one in one’s place.

Once zipped up into a bag, it also has a band so you can slide it over the handle of your luggage for easy transportation. The thing looks super slick and really nice and I was intrigued for a full three seconds before I realized how this is not really sensible for travel (for me) at all.

For what? Who knows? Probably to eat.

Once taken by Great-Auntie Tiger, you were lost to the world. The desired and desirable child considered useful by society, swallowed within the maw of the tiger, never to be seen again.

Tiger girls. Fox women. Wolves beneath the skin…

Wasn’t it odd, and so very convenient, that all they were afraid of could be reduced down to one simple concept: a woman who had power they didn’t trust themselves to break to harness.

What if, not only did we take back the power spoken over us, but we loved it? Embraced the power, the power held within women, and the woman herself?

I saw this re: billionaires and I would like to suggest we all move towards a mindset of “seriously, revamp the tax code so it’s impossible to have billionaires”. Too many poor people I know were against taxes for the rich “in case they became rich” and for one we have no real concept of scale…

I don't see any immediate hope in mitigating runaway inequality like this either. It's real bad with no solutions on the horizon

As a former gamer girl, I am torn between “yeah, toxic masculinity was why I quit WoW” and “FF14 was filled with genuinely lovely people” and “…that’s kinda how it was some places but not all places, particularly MMORPGs & I’m uncomfortable with this framing” but I have no stats so.

TBH, I'm looking back at past me and my choices and going "what were you thinking?" Why would you do this? Like, I know we enjoy footnotes, but. I mean, I could not explain anything, I guess, but if I don't, how else can I fully express our fangirling over Zhào Yún?
