Someone in Peru actually did their job. René Gastelumendi Luna, a journalist, was doing some research for articles about "ARMY hysteria" but he met BTS instead. Trans : @\BTSDailyChile 🔗 www.facebook.com/share/19kfSu...

"BTS Made Me Eat My Words"

I was wrong. I let my own generational biases get the better of me.

For many of us watching the BTS phenomenon from the outside, whether for work or out of sheer curiosity, these young Korean men seemed like nothing more than a manufactured product. Seven young Asian men dancing in perfect sync in front of hundreds of thousands of screaming fans.

It's the kind of easy prejudice that comes from thinking you understand something you actually don't know a damn thing about. You dismiss it with comments like, "It's all marketing, some kind of black magic. They're plastic dolls, cute little guys singing catchy songs, like Menudo or New Kids on the Block, but Asian."

Life is full of surprises.

When I started doing some research so I'd have something to say about the reports of hysteria, excitement, and everything else I was supposed to cover from the studio, I got a reality check. A well-deserved one.

I barely scratched the surface before realizing I hadn't understood a thing. I was just an older guy completely out of touch with the subject.

Today, these guys are between 29 and 33 years old, and behind the overwhelming popularity lies a conceptual and sociological depth that much of Western pop music abandoned decades ago.

Let's break it down.

Pure, unadulterated philosophy

They don't settle for manufactured love songs. They've built entire albums around Carl Jung's psychoanalytic theories. Yes, Carl Jung!

They explore the human mind, breaking down the Persona (the social mask we wear to fit in or gain approval on social media), the Shadow (our repressed fears, guilt, and darker sides), and the Ego.

In other works, they draw directly from Hermann Hesse and his novel Demian to portray the harsh realities of growing up: understanding that maturity isn't a smooth or forgiving journey, but one that requires breaking out of your shell and confronting your own contradictions.

That's what their lyrics are about!

Their music also delivers direct social criticism.

From their earliest songs, they've confronted systemic inequality, the suffocating pressures of the Asian education system, the job insecurity facing their generation, and the relentless expectation to perform like machines.

They've also challenged one of the biggest taboos in their society: mental health. They've spoken openly about depression, panic attacks, and the emptiness of feeling like you don't fit into the expectations imposed by older generations.

Jin looks radiant at the concert in Peru. On fancams, he looks very happy while performing. He does not seem to have anything more important to do; he is fully invested and does not hold back. I imagine that after the concert, he goes back to his introverted self, already pulling back. #Jin #BTS

2020 Seasons Greetings remains my favorite Bangtan photoshoot. 🥺

BTS Jungkook, j-hope, & Jimin cuddling on a diagonal: JK leaning on Hobi's chest and Jimin standing behind Hobi with his arm around Hobi's neck. They are wearing clothing in black and white patterns. (2020 Seasons Greetings)

BTS Jungkook and Jimin cuddling on either side of Yoongi. Jungkook has his arm around Yoongi's shoulders, and Yoongi has his eyes closed, gently smiling. Jimin is on the right with his arms around Yoongi's waist just below frame. They are wearing button-up shirts and necklaces. Yoongi's t-shirt under his iridescent purple shirt is exactly his skin color so at first glance it looks like his chest is exposed. (2020 Seasons Greetings)

I know that majority people here are (mostly) levelheaded and are not the type to follow Bangtan during their private time or crowd their hotel. But this is a reminder to all that we can do better on our part by not consuming media that are taken without their consent during their private time.

You know it’s BAD bad when you get a direct plea, not from big hit, but from the kim namjoon begging people to have mercy and go somewhere else, selfie included almost like a bribe. It is embarrassing. I really hope it’s being taken seriously in latam army spaces.

I agree. Being an ARMY means representing ARMY values, and these people are doing us dirty. Airport people, hotel people, restaurant people, all of them that make the members feel uncomfortable can just leave

So I often I see new ARMY asking if the emotions they evoke ever wear off. For me it's an ebb and flow. In 9 years I have been madly in love over and over again with different members but this man still affects me so much that it HURTS! 💘
