Rant: Another /Curse of the age of AI/ is the constant need to verify as human. And human me keeps failing it cuz I leave the tab open for too long (I guess it’s a very human thing to do). Having to be ✨smart and cheeky✨and open the link again in a new private window is also just all too human.

Today marks the start of my last month as a postdoc in Finland. As much as I would like to say I managed to secure myself another position, the (academic) job market is rough right now. I’m officially #OpenTowork. It’s not all bleak as I'm moving back to NL - and my partner and our cats (1/5)

Interesting how the difference between feral and companion cats is emphasised to be obvious - reminds me of Mr Black, caught as feral, purring and snuggling after 2 months, and the kittens whose mum was killed, then turned domestic enough and adopted. How wild is wild, how domestic is domestic?

Oh it just came out: I wrote this short essay shortly after the research trip in Aotearoa recalling a very.. strange.. experience of a field day catching wallabies. Three were caught that day, many let go because they weren’t big enough. I still think about them sometimes. 🫧
