Look, y'all— this is not the worst outcome, but it's also not great. Framing this as gaining a notably large herbarium is spin; the reality is a historic, important herbarium has lost its identity. The specimens were never going to be trashed; Duke still voluntarily truncated their botanical legacy.

Grateful and love my current iob. But..hard to watch Ted Lasso and not have some regrets I didn’t end up applying to that Kew job. 😆 The accents alone are great.

Why?? Why do some morrow’s honeysuckle Lonicera morrowii have red fruits and others have orange? Curious 🧐 . (I asked the twitter verse years ago and don’t think I got an answer.)
Two shrubs next to each other, one with red berries, the other with orange. Poison ivy galore.

Strongly recommend! Study plants and have a topic you love? An opportunity to dig and think deeply on a topic, with no restraints on length, and provide your perspective on its past, present, and future. And get paid! Writing this review on traits & herbaria in 2022 was super rewarding.
