I was asked yesterday about workload. I told preservice educators the unpopular truth: the needs of their students/families and expectations of their school board and Ministry of Education cannot be met by only working within paid hours, especially in the first years.

Rereading this for a paper I am writing. It was written ten years ago- and it really makes me wonder what we will see in the next 10 years. Prescient. Asked “what kind of people are we becoming though our habitual use of technology?”

Just wow- we are the masters of our own demise -over and over again. But our complicity can be hidden in these kinds of contexts- it is easier to point at unhoused people and blame some kind of individual failure. It’s so demoralizing. We can make better choices. This is a choice.

Today’s news on #CBC says that more people are seeking emergency care for gambling - mostly men and boys. Why do we create conditions for people to become ill (addicted) and then act surprised when our hospitals are overrun? At what point will we fight for a healthy society harder than for profits?

I don’t know you, but my mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer 30 years ago. It was “transitional cell” and travelled to her lump nodes, her lungs and her liver. She had massive chemo- I still remember the names of the three drugs. In August we celebrated her 88th birthday.

Hi Norwegian here.
A hard thing to explain about social democracy is that we WANT Our taxes t
o go to the "undeserving". Not because we're naive. Because it works. Healthy people cost less. Educated people contribute more. Housed people are more stable. The "undeserving" are actually pretty good investments. But the main point is that in a healthy society there are no "undeserving". There are just people. Follow for more from a social democracy, or dignity is not a privilege.
