By adopting the Right’s framing and problem diagnosis on immigration, Democratic leaders have not merely been compromising on a policy issue, they have been lending legitimacy to the very core of the ethno-nationalist project - basically telling voters the Trumpists are kinda right, actually.

The Ed Dept manages and enforces federal law in education - Title I for kids & schools in poverty; IDEA for disabled students; Title IV on civil rights; financial aid like Perkins & Pell grants, more. An attack on the dept. is nothing but a feckless but still dangerous attack on those laws.
