Kind of weird how just a dozen years ago the US would tell us that China was bad due to global aggression, violent suppression of dissent, governmental corruption, mass surveillance, currency manipulation, theft of intellectual property, dangerous manufacturing practices, unregulated food supplies, a housing crisis, government-controlled media, suppression of free speech, expensive healthcare leading to riots, widespread poverty…

My dad was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer last month. Today I got to tell him that I’m getting published. He knows why I had to stop writing 32 years ago, and how hard it’s been trying to find my voice again. You’re never too old to make your parents proud.

Unpopular but true: if you refuse to click through links and read the actual article, you have no one but yourself to blame for having misinformed, skewered opinions spread thin over a vast chasm of ignorance.

As a reader for a couple of lit journals, may I also add that using a single name as an author (especially if you use numbers in the spelling) is not the power move you think it is.

Friend said “Oh, those little bugs were from my plants? I thought they were getting into my house through the screens.” This is how many were in my place after just a couple of days. I pity the people moving into her place! 🤣

Just got my first-ever short story acceptance. I’ve been wrestling with this story (and my voice) for a couple months. New end came to me last night in my sleep so I rewrote it and @doricliterary.bsky.social accepted it this evening with a tentative publish date of 12/1. So grateful and thrilled!

Slight reduction in the infestation today. I’ve got blue light traps in two spots, plus sticky traps in every plant, and did a hydrogen peroxide flush of each pot. Still feeling pestered.

Normalize muting or unfollowing the accounts of people who can’t tell the damn difference between actual writing and AI, especially when they claim to be writers. And sorry, but a sexy author photo and sob story don’t overcome all the signs + multiple 100% AI scores on Pangram.

Friend is traveling for an year and gifted me her houseplants. Three days later, they gifted me a fungus gnat infestation. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. It’s a constant onslaught! Picking up sticky traps, blue light traps & gallons of hydrogen peroxide tomorrow. My god.

Trying to decide if rewriting a story by changing perspective, tense, and some plot elements is enough to make it a distinct story that's okay to submit to places which rejected the original. Or if I'm just being stubborn. (That's been known to happen.)
