Is it possible that the Labour Govt is fed up of no media covering their govt programme so they picked a shock way to initially frame immigration, used words they later don’t use (stranger etc) to get the coverage on the actual Thing they are doing?

Wow, what a horrific typo. Right on the cover.
Photo of a book on a bookshelf in a shop. It’s by the late Pope Francis. Large picture of his head together with the word ‘Hope’.

Yes
These are all real problems, with real harms, and it behoves us to engage with them seriously. But we cannot do that by proclaiming ‘woke over-reach’ the villain when actual, structural issues go unaddressed. In the UK, for example, if asked to solve the impenetrable mystery of why so many boys are aimless, dissocialised, and credulous, I might point to the fact that 70% of schools have less funding than they did in 2010. Or that two thirds of council-run youth centres in England have closed in the same period, along with 30% of leisure centres and 20% of libraries. Add to that thousands of football pitches, swimming pools, boxing clubs, and communal spaces. Pretending that the effects of such obvious social vandalism are somehow outweighed by people on Twitter talking about ‘male privilege’
demeans the issues at hand, as well as our collective intelligence.

#ofstead. There is an irony that the adults are complaining about an education system that gives schools a one word grade when children have been branded by one-Letter/number to grade their intelligence and potential for YEARS. Maybe what’s reductive for one is also for the other.

In towns like mine where a fishmonger, cafe and pizza place went out of business on the arrival of a new Sainsburys I think this is ok. V sad for the people whose jobs are temporarily displaced but the town still needs those services must not done crapply by a supermarket.

Why is this ‘news’ given equal standing a monarchy death, major incident or natural disaster? What qualifies EM to be listened to on his views on political party leadership? He’s a car and satellite manufacturer…. BBC. Sky. ITV. Sort it out. Do your job better.

Just about to play the best game with the neighbours. They have brought round a blood pressure machine and apparently the one with the lowest BP takes a shot. I can’t possibly condone such irresponsibility but will give it a shot and report back

It was our tiny hamlet carols last night. We walk round every house singing and gathering people as we go and end up in someone’s house to drink and eat. What you realise is how amazing village life is. There are hundreds of tiny connections of support and social stuff. /1
