Our NSF grant on "Source Credibility, Political Identity, and Factual Belief Revision" with Jonathan Woon was also just cancelled because it is no longer "in alignment with current NSF priorities". This is sad and frustrating!

Americans prefer information to guide better decisions as opposed to restrictions of their freedom of choice when individuals harm their own welfare due to incomplete or misleading information. B Bartling, A Cappelen, @henninghermes.com, M Skivenes, B Tungodden cepr.org/voxeu/column... #EconSky
Individuals sometimes make choices that harm their welfare due to incomplete or misleading information. This column presents findings from a large-scale experiment in the US that demonstrates how Americans prefer such situations to be addressed. Many support ‘soft interventions’, such as providing information to guide better decisions, while there is significant resistance to ‘hard interventions’ that restrict freedom of choice. Soft interventions receive support both from welfarists who respect the preferences of the stakeholder and from libertarian paternalists who want to preserve people’s freedom to choose.

I am on the job market, which seems like a great opportunity for my first post on here! My job market paper is about failures of contingent thinking -- the act of reasoning about hypothetical events. 1/
