my short follow-up on this is thursday night was probably the most physically traumatic experience i’ve ever had, and the procedure the next day was a peaceful miracle and trying to remove access to it should be demonized. i felt and knew this before but, i feel like i have more authority now.

this is not how i meant to share this news publicly, but: miscarrying at home, with a d&c scheduled tomorrow morning, and watching a bunch of men on every platform boast about removing abortion access is harrowing.

that time @davidock.bsky.social wandered into the kitchen at @katerspie.bsky.social 's parents idly strumming Falling Slowly and it was still kinda casual/seeing what happens between them then I think but she shot me a look like "oh no what have you done" and yeah, that's why I sniffle lots today.

i think the odyssey movie was visually incredible and several parts i loved watching, but with a handful of notable exceptions the acting was not good and the script was pretty surface. i don’t rely mind because overall it’s enjoyable to see the way a lot of it was envisioned, but overall 🤷🏻‍♀️

the rails but it does feel like a reasonable progression to over-the-top gloss and action, it feels different but it’s relatively gradual and makes sense but then it just absolutely 🤢

i know other people have said this better than i have/will, it’s just SO striking. the first seasons are slow, everyone feels real. they smoke and swear, when they deliver a self-conscious line it comes across the way someone irl sometimes does it instead of a cartoon. s3 & 4 are where it goes off

got the stranger things dvds because cancelled netflix, physical media etc., and jeez. everytime i go back to the beginning it is so apparent the tragedy that the later seasons are. yikes.

Over and over we’ve yelled ourselves hoarse about this, and over and over the NYT has instead printed tired and lazy rebuttals, rather than ever make a single apology. So for months, Alejandra has spent pretty much every waking hour building this and it’s irrefutable once you see the data.

The New York Times changed how it covers trans people. I measured it.
An investigation by Alejandra Caraballo for The Dissident: twelve years and 3,242 articles of New York Times transgender coverage, scored and open to review.

the one i think about the most was at my cousin’s house, it had two large-ish rooms and the little tags under the VHS cases (no tapes, just styrofoam rectangles inside) that you took to the counter and someone got the tape for you. there was a cute boy at the tape counter and his favorite movie was

the answer, as usual, is balance! sometimes the benefits outweigh the detriments, and it is wildly true that the quality and nature of the content is more important than the quantity. but also there is no useful control group and we need more data. there is a recent meta analysis on SFV use that

also the lines of hamlet the play are delivers too quickly and so clearly for the screen that i’m annoyed. performances from the mains and the children are pretty great.

the book, for me, is much more about her relationship with her life: with her mother in law, the forest and garden, all her children, the town, her own conception of self, her husband, the world all at once. that doesn’t come through here.

Hamnet was good. my expectations were very high, and it doesn’t quite work for me as an adaptation of the book—i think it it exacerbates the parts of the novel that aren’t as good, and as i suspected doesn’t focus as much on agnes’s internal life in favor of the marriage.
