This is a bit fucking rich, coming from an AI agent. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Its AI monitoring agent, introduced in recent weeks, is trained to spot signs an instructor has not fully internalised the teaching material. It is instructed to count verbal tics that point to that conclusion and to “judge the PATTERN across the whole transcript, not isolated instances”.

It says: “1-2 hedges or filler words in an otherwise direct, well-internalised explanation do NOT fail this standard … What fails the standard is a PERVASIVE REPEATED pattern of filler, hedging or re-explanation.”

A film crew arrived because our headmistress was having a makeover on the Clothes Show. We had to repeat the same hymn over and over till they got the right shot.

Fascinating that the advantage of a bot to some people is they can ghost it without feeling guilty.
“I joke that my mom’s Versona allows me to be the bad son I was never allowed to be when she was alive,” he said. “Like many busy adults, I don’t talk to her as much as I should, but I don’t have to, so it’s not the same sense of guilt.”

I don't especially like it when people circulate links to property listings because they think a house is tacky, but when I see people sneering because an artist's house has a lot of pictures displayed in a salon-style hang I'm really lost.

Psycho sometimes gets credited with triggering the decline of continuous play (Hitchcock said no admissions after the start time to protect the twist), but I've also read that cinemas were pushing for "fill and spill" on the assumption it was more profitable.

“…recognise that it is for the people of the island of Ireland alone, by agreement between the two parts respectively and without external impediment, to exercise their right of self-determination on the basis of consent, freely and concurrently given… to bring about a united Ireland”.
Extract from the Good Friday Agreement, 1998: “1. The participants endorse the commitment made by the British and Irish Governments that, in a new British-Irish Agreement replacing the Anglo-Irish Agreement, they will:
(i)
recognise the legitimacy of whatever choice is freely exercised by a majority of the people of Northern Ireland with regard to its status, whether they prefer to continue to support the Union with Great Britain or a newsovereign united Ireland;
(ii)
recognise that it is for the people of the island of Ireland alone, by agreement between the two parts respectively and without external impediment, to exercise their right of self-determination on the basis of consent, freely and concurrently given, North and South, to bring about a united Ireland, if that is their wish, accepting that this right must be achieved and exercised with and subject to the agreement and consent of a majority of the people of Northern Ireland”

I like that Bluesky is quiet. What I miss about Twitter isn't so much the likes and RTs, more the sheer variety of highly niche communities. I liked that there was Bookbinding Twitter and Psychology Twitter and Doll Twitter, all with their own lore and preoccupations. Bluesky is more... generic?

13, lower than I'd anticipated. Many on the list have had media adaptations - I don't know the criteria for inclusion, but I did wonder if that was distorting choices. And some of these are procedural rather than thrillers. Crime novels might have been a better catch-all.

Regarding Arday, I'm not convinced by Bastani's argument "credentialed" people are more credulous because they can argue themselves into anything. I can think of three big liars I've known ("used to be in the CIA" level of lies) and they were rarely challenged. People of all backgrounds let it slide

I may have interpreted the tough editor post slant. Relative to AI sycophancy, measured editorial feedback still requires you to wrestle with your writerly ego; you do need an editor capable of breaking your heart to that qualified extent.

Yes, but I think "care" potentially covers quite a lot, and it's usual for friends and family to fall in different places in the value they attach to your work.

No one proof reads their job ads anymore, do they? As much as I enjoy the thought of clocking out on the stroke of thirty seconds.
A job listing (job title and recruiter removed) that states: "£28031-£30378 a year. 3 hours 37 minutes and 30 seconds a week, Fixed Term for 6 months."
