A player who has shared the most votes with a jury member is ~37% more likely to get their vote. And more votes, more likely. At this stage, Kaelan has the highest jury favorability, and Myles is critically low. This is a strong indicator, but not deterministic. A few more things 🧵 1/ #SurvivorAU

Hospitality - $42.8bn
Mining - $42.4bn

Profits:
Hospitality - $13.9bn
Mining - $253.2bn

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold. We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940. 2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.
Ridgeline chart showing the distribution of global daily air temperature differences from the pre-industrial reference period (1850-1900), for every year between 1940 and 2024. Each individual year resembles a hill, shaded in a darker shade of red and further to the right for warmer years. The trend is clearly towards warmer years, with 2024 standing out as first year above 1.5C.

“Oh but Kate my evaluations are great so I like to see them!” The problem is, if you give them weight in a good year, your brain will give them weight in a bad year. And there will be a bad year in the future where you get punished disproportionately for small mistakes. Don’t let your brain be weird

If you feel like you do have to read them (e.g. you have workload allocated for redeveloping the course next year), I’d suggest (1) waiting til the new year; (2) asking a friend to read them and just distil any signal in the noise for you. There’s no reason you need to read every word

It’s that time of year again. Teaching evaluations are known to be sexist, racist, and xenophobic. They can be mentally harmful (especially for ECRs). Yet our institutions insist on using them. Remember - you do not actually have to read your evaluations. You do not need to volunteer for harm 🫡
