The most outstanding film I saw at MIFF was Lukas Dhont's Coward. The superb acting supported a truly moving and beautiful story. Don't sleep on it. It made an excellent counterpoint to reading Angel Down, two ends of the Great War in one week.

I pay monthly book tax to keep bookstores alive. What you do is you go into the bookstore, pick out some books that seem interesting, and pay. You do not have to read them! This surefire strategy will keep the book tax collectors off your back.

Vale Marjane Satrapi. I remember discovering Persepolis when I lived in France 20 years ago, and it inspired me to write my own biographical comics. I never became a comic writer, but that expression of creativity led me to write my first completed works in a year that changed my life.
