On this day 20 years ago, Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in Moscow, on Putin’s 54th birthday. She had spent years reporting on Putin’s Russia and exposing atrocities committed during Russia’s war in Chechnya. Dozens of journalists have been killed for their work under Putin.

Whatever his reasons for moving to Russia, he would have been better off being deported. He had survived in Moldova before and probably would have survived there again. But chances of dying in the Russian army are very high.

There’s a video of what appears to be a Russian drone targeting and killing a clearly unarmed Ukrainian teenage boy on a bicycle. He looks to be several years younger than my sons and must admit that it got to me. The wanton, deliberate cruelty of the Russian forces is unbearable.
