Looking forward to see the Arthur Jafa exhibition at New Museum when in NYC later this fall. His son is named Ayler. AJ sent me a generous note about them recurringly watching my Albert Ayler film. It was sweet. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/14/a...

This evening I started reading Charles Reznikoff’s Testimony - The United States (1885-1915): Recitative. So far it’s almost as gore as McCarthy’s Blood Meridian.

"I Called Him Morgan" is an amazing documentary. I was especially fascinated by Helen and their dynamic. Wish they had grown old together. "An exploration of the relationship between jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan and his common-law wife Helen, who was implicated in his murder in 1972." #FilmSky #Jazz

Today’s the birthday of Lee Morgan, the most explosive, exuberant trumpeter of the post-bop era, and a great jazz composer. Here’s a really excellent documentary about him, a good introduction to his music. youtu.be/yxLByThNvWU?...

Happy birthday to one of the greatest. ❤️ This album gets me every time. A genuine emotional roller coaster. (Six years ago Gil Scott-Heron’s estate wanted me to direct a documentary about him. Wherever that project is today I hope and wish a heartfelt doc will be made.)

#pappa
