#AlzChat - I'm including this popular and effective activity in ideas for seasonal activities in dementia care: Paper-leaf-wreath-making! Paint a range of autumnal colours across a piece of thin card and cut out leaf shapes. Then glue these onto a card ring. Add ribbon or string to hang.

#AlzChat - among various creative activities in 'A Creative Toolkit for Communication in Dementia Care' (JKP publishers) is channelling artist Andy Goldsworthy. Use fallen leaves and berries to create transient patterns on tables or walls or benches. Take a photo. The results are often stunning.

oh yes! That's lovely - using the senses for an autumn cooking experience in dementia care: Baked apple pie, Pumpkin pie, Butternut squash soup, (veg soups generally), Lentil quiche, Baked potatoes, Cinnamon biscuits, Ginger cookies. #AlzChat

#AlzChat Last month we mentioned memory boxes. How about creating an Autumnal box. Fill a box with pine cones, acorns, beechnuts, gourds, cinnamon sticks, orange and gold fabrics etc to create a sensory activity that can stimulate stories or words related to Autumn. (photo C Giles with permission)

#AlzChat The opportunity to gather leaves for pressing still creates a buzz of excitement among the families we've worked with who are living with dementia- This is a process of sorting, choosing, deciding, pressing leaves on sheets of paper beneath heavy books (or a press)...then making a collage.

#AlzChat This autumn activity is artfully messy but the results are pleasing! People enjoy the painted cones as table displays. You can add eco-friendly glitter for that extra special sparkle!

What small act of bravery might you choose? From small acts of bravery to unimaginable feats, the daring is usually instigated by gut feeling. Mine is saying ‘take time out to paint!’ Bravery is choosing authenticity. What’s your gut feeling saying? #FridayFlourish #InspireYourLife #AuthenticLiving

#AlzChat yes photo albums are fabulous for reminiscence - especially if photos are labelled or little stories / narratives are available. We try to avoid asking ‘ who is this?’ Or ‘testing’ persons memory. 🩷

#AlzChat A recent project with #NairnBookandArtsFestival in care homes created some beautiful fabric images on the theme of home/ sense of place. This one is of a farmhouse where the lady used to live. It had a chicken shed and flowers almost up to the roof. @creativecaring.bsky.social

#AlzChat I recently bought postcards on eBay about 'the home & shopping'. Great as reminiscence prompts. Many are 'used' postcards with messages to loved ones and friends about ordinary lives, which add to the experience. @irememberbetter.bsky.social @natrese.bsky.social @creativecaring.bsky.social

#AlzChat One of my favourite activities with families (particularly in dementia care) is to create a simple grid using pieces of ribbon, and support a person to place an object in each square to talk about. These may be all related- or different themes.

#AlzChat Reminiscence (especially using the five senses to help prompt) can be expressed through conversation, art, poetry, painting, movement etc. It can be highly stimulating, comforting, inspiring, meaningful and moving. @alzchat.bsky.social @irememberbetter.bsky.social

#AlzChat Offer people choices for what to reminisce about. Use objects, images, sounds, newspapers and stories as prompts for recalling experiences around the topic. This can be done on a one-to-one basis or in a group.

#AlzChat - sticking with garden related themes for summer activities in dementia care - how about an easy to use garden schedule. Can help with a sense of purpose and meaning (although just 'being' in the garden is of itself valuable and meaningful.) 🌸🌸🌸

#AlzChat have fun making a 'waspinator' - this is designed to keep wasps away from picnics by looking like a wasp's nest. This is simple version using bubble-wrap filler/ could use scrunched up paper, papered , string. Many would appreciate this.
