Good news! With all the time you’re going to save this week from not having to call your councillor about the charter-free zone, you can call them about this instead!

Reminder that yesterday Councillor Ross Eadie said that there was NO power within Canada to effect foreign conflicts, thus making protests in support of Palestine pointless. We deserve leaders who aren't apathetic and have an actual vision for the future.

"The housing crisis is not a crisis of supply; it is a crisis of distribution." Housing inflation has boosted the wealth of private landlords, while rising prices have put ownership out of reach for many, put new buyers deeply in debt, all while driving up homelessness. tinyurl.com/42sc7vvb

The numbers don’t lie: The housing crisis is not caused by a supply shortage - CCPA
Financialization, not demographics, caused the cost of housing to explode

Tami Gadir - resident of Osborne Village and professor. Told she couldn’t wear Jews for Palestinian Liberation shirt and was asked to remove it. Asks whether it would have been considered inflammatory if she wore a Jews for Ukrainian Liberation shirt.

DEMONSTRATIONS ARE DEMOCRATIC - Rally against "ANTI-PROTEST" Bylaw proposed by Councillor Evan Duncan to the City of Winnipeg's Executive Policy Committee on TUESDAY, FEB 17 @ CITY HALL @ 8:45 AM
Graphic with text reading:
What is it?
The Safe Access to Vulnerable Infrastructure By-law would set 100 meter buffer zones on how close "nuisance" demonstrations can be to certain types of buildings including places of worship, public and independent schools, post-secondary institutions, healthcare facilities, cementaries, childcare centres, and other designated facilities. Fines range from $500-$5000 per individual.
Bottom of graphic shows a map to illustration the amount of space blocked by the proposed bylaw. 78.3 square km of the City of Winnipeg would be restricted.Graphic with text that reads:
"Why is this important?"
- Nuisance Protest is non-specific, meaning any and all public protests, marches, round dances & other gatherinsg could be subject.
- There are already anti-hate laws and a 50 meter buffer zone set by the Province for Reproductive Healthcare Facilities
- Areas restricted by this by-law are public spaces and points of proximity to decision makers. City Hall, University Campuses, Wab Kinew's Office, etc.
- Fines of up to $5000 could be issued to every person who shows up to Round Dances, rallies, group bike rides, marches, etc.
- The language of the by-law extends to any protests in these exclusion zones that use amplified sound or block traffic.
- Police will have new tools they will use to silence and punish protesters
- This will almost certainly be racist in implementation.A graphic with text that reads:

"How to Help"
- Show up for a rally at City Hall on Tuesday, Feb 17 @ 8:45 AM before EPC puts the by-law to a voite
- Register as a delegate to speak to EPC on Tuesday, or submit written delegations by TOMORROW, Friday 13 @ Noon
- Check out @wpgsouthcentre4justice on instagram who have shared instructions and a template for written delegations
- Speak to your union, community, and religious leaders about your concerns and urge them to submit comments or register to delegate

Went on two walks today FOR MY HEALTH and almost got run over on BOTH. And BOTH times I waved my arms at the drivers but they were in their own worlds looking the opposite direction. And yes I was on the sidewalk with the right of way both times.

Been trying to take lunch time walks when I'm at the office, but I am learning that the neighbourhood behind our building is so unwalkable, even just for excersize. I've never thought about it much before, but I now hate bays when it comes to development and city planning.

Am I the only baby earred weirdo who can't wear standard ear buds? I forgot my headphones at home so I'm wearing the back up ear buds I keep in my drawer. They hurt my little ear holes and won't stay in more than a minute or two at a time.

No Arlington Bridge, and Main Street @ Higgins is closed due to a fire - but no, the north end is not seperated from the city, not at all!

Check out this calendar I made :) Available at Pollock's Hardware Co-op - 1407 Main Street, in the North End of Winnipeg.
a calendar that features the shop cat that lives at Pollock's Hardware Co-op named Ratchet. The image shows four copies of the calendar arranged so you can see the artwork for four months of the calendar year. The front cover has May's artwork, featuring Ratchet wearing a red baseball cap amongst a collage of paint cans and tools. June shows several images of Ratchet sleeping amongst a collage of flowers. Another month is a collage of notable sites in Winnipeg's north end, and has Ratchet's face photoshopped onto an image of a North End Baba. The final image is a an image of Ratchet with a baby in a little red wagon, amongst a collage of vintage gardening images.

Another major piece of the budget: - The incredible Community Connections Space at Millennium is being cruelly defunded to "save" $614k - The transit security force is receiving $750k more this year, with even bigger increases in 2026/27 They're defunding actual safety solutions for cops/security.

Big pet peeve when people say violence is never the answer. Like have you heard of policing, prisons, the death penalty, the military, war, etc. Governments have actually chosen violence as the main answer

I'm very supportive of the delegations today but I'm a little worried that folks are throwing their support in for a new bridge because of their bike commute. Rail relocation would be a huge for the North End - especially since we are all living next to a big toxic mess.
