Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 30/09/2026A quick look around would have turned up vanilla Node deployment 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 29/09/2026Good progress today, panels set for 2 of 9 bays, not sealed yet. Weeps on the bottom make sure water doesn't get trapped if it ever gets in (which it will during the build when it rains or snows, and hopefully never will after it's sealed on top). Each weep has steel mesh sealed in against insects. 030
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 27/09/2026That's it, all joists are installed and the entire platform is level, straight, and true 💯 I ran my 5 ft level across every corner and all the bays, 1/4, mid, and 3/4 span. Next is closing the bottom using plywood panels that sit in the bays, and sealing the edges. 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 26/09/2026Well, it's raining all day but managed to prep all the rest of the four joists in the garage so they are ready to install tomorrow once the rain dies down 🌄 Then it will be onto sealing the underside! 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 26/09/2026Checked and that beam is now straight as Artemis' arrow. 💪 020
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 25/09/20266 of 10 joists completed! I think the third joist needs some planing but some of it is expected due to crowning. 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 25/09/2026I use @chiefarchitect.bsky.social to model and design it, and I use @notion.com + Claude to manage the project and document the build. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 25/09/2026I'm currently building this garden room in my backyard. I have experience renovating interior rooms but this is my first exterior project. It'll be a recording studio slash he-shed. I'll be posting progress updates here but I'm micro journaling in our Discord too. discord.com/channels/119... 130
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 24/09/2026Good progress today: two more joists hung and they are indeed level. 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩 Polished up my system for hanging them level all by my lonesome. Also the tree went bye-bye since it would have interfered with the studio in the future! Sad but we want to turn that area into a pollinator garden. 🐝 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 24/09/20262 of 10 joists hung, the ends, which are a little special. 🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩 010
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 23/09/2026Today's progress: - beam tops planed ✅ - beam tops flashed ✅ - joists cut ✅ - joist underside ledgers cut ✅ 130
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 19/09/2026At night I can use the laser level to see there's a slight outward bow on the south side. There's probably a couple ways to relieve that, it's very slight, maybe 1/8". The other side is pretty much perfect. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 18/09/2026Why would you want this? Simple: I want a collection of pages *with properties* (or layouts!) organized in the sidebar. I already have pages organized how I want. But they can't have properties -- because those are only part of a database schema. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 18/09/2026Rim and frame is shimmed and bolted in place, just two stations left to do but unfortunately it's supposed to rain/storm all day tomorrow. Will pick it back up over the weekend or Monday. In the meantime, there's other work to get done and technically the joist assemblies can be made in the garage. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 17/09/2026Outer rim is fully assembled and square! The next part is assembling joist cavities with a prefab underside as a pest/rodent barrier and way to support and protect the insulation. Since I can only work from above, I have a system I'll try for assembling one joist at a time and connecting the bays 120
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 16/09/2026About 3/4 of the rim is assembled now. I just need to add two more inner rim joists and make it square 💪 That's tomorrow's job. 020
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 14/09/2026It's a rainy day so I can't finish the next build step today, but I can finish the prep because I can do it in the garage. The wood has to be dry outside to finish the last step which is flashing the top. Tomorrow looks like a better day for that! The finished East/West rim beams are set aside: 110
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 04/09/2026So far there are over 200 specs for this studio build. So far specs consist of: - Control layers - Geometry - Design Input - Materials - Fastener schedules - Install methods But as the taxonomy evolves I might split or get more specific. And later phases like rough-in are not even fully done yet. 230
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 03/09/2026It's on! Ordered the floor package. Everything should arrive next Wed and I'll be ready to start. Over the long weekend it'll be cleaning and prepping the garage, site, and tool inventory. Fun stuff 😁 It's a bit surreal. It's going to happen or I'm going to fail spectacularly. 030
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 30/08/2026Working with Opus 5 Extra to create a skill that can build detail assembly diagrams and am very pleased with the results. This is the wall-to-roof transition I have detailed. This was definitely not a one-shot but many turns of refinement. But now I have something repeatable I can use. 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 29/08/2026This is the current working draft of the build. Except no glass on the door, I just don't have the manufacturer profile added in the software. 010
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 29/08/2026I'm very close to ordering the first delivery of materials for the backyard build. First, I had to add two new helical piles because I was lazy a few years ago and didn't add the two I already planned. No shortcuts when it comes to spreading the structural load. 😅 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 02/08/2026I played this with the family and we beat it tonight! I had played it once already. But now we'd like to finish the DLC and I haven't played that myself yet. They really enjoyed it! It's a very watchable game. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 30/07/2026I'M FREE, BABY. 🔥 Tonight I submit the last module for my latest course and I'll be not taking on any new courses until October I expect. Instead I'll be a full time DIY enthusiast, building a garden room in my backyard 👷 Much to do before it gets cold again. 050
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 27/07/2026Having been to beautiful places like this, I know pics can't do it justice so it must be 10x more impressive and majestic in person. I felt the same about Newfoundland! Banff is more classic forest and mountains imagery, I'd love to go. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 25/07/2026I think Minnesota tops the charts for biking and trails and that's one thing I absolutely love about living over here. In fact, big city small world vibes because we literally ran into my friend geocaching on the trail today as we were biking. 010
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 25/07/2026Fine Homebuilding parent company takes a stance that AI won't be used to create content. GOOD. I'm glad some companies understand how doing that would actively work against their strategy. 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 17/07/2026I only need to pay $120 for the additional usage I spent, which is fine. But then I try 2 times and it fails. So there are two SUCCESSFUL payments in my payment history, yet the additional limit is still locked. And the first one doubled the charge?! Insane. 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 17/07/2026yo @github.com you using AI to write your billing and payment systems now? I got charged 3 times with a "payment failure", and not only that, a single receipt shows double charges. I opened a ticket but I'm making a stink here too, this is ridiculous. #Copilot 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 17/07/2026Real bad up in Duluth, it was 300 down here in the cities today. Did not go outside. 100
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 16/07/2026The incentives around Airbnb reviews are pretty poor. As a guest, I'm incentivized to leave 5 star reviews otherwise future hosts might deny requests to stay. Any issues are basically only reported privately or made lighter in the review. If 4 stars doesn't mean 4 stars what good is it. 230
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 14/07/2026Praise for @typescript.fm ? On reddit?! I must be dreaming lol 🤣 071
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 11/07/2026Not even Alaska has moose fencing 😜 Highest concentration of moose in the world. That was what it took for us to finally see one in the wild 🤣 110
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 11/07/2026Happy to report we saw a moose by the side of the road (the most common way to see one here). FINALLY. My wife can cross that off her bucket list. 🫎🫎🫎 141
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 11/07/2026St John's, Newfoundland is pretty cool. I actually don't want to say anything lest it be corrupted. It's like fight club, first rule is don't talk about how cool St John's is. 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 04/07/2026Low tide: walk on the ocean floor High tide: canoe where you walked The water level here rises and falls about 30-40ft every 6 hours 🤯 We spent the day exploring Hopewell Rocks at the Bay of Fundy. 110
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 03/07/2026We are in Moncton, NB today. Explored the beach after a squall. Tomorrow plan to visit Hopewell Rocks high and low tides, as well as Fundy National Park. 000
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 19/06/2026My friend got this tiny TV you can put mp4s on and each one is a "channel" 😂 010
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 16/06/2026fun fact: in 2015 during our sabbatical, me and my wife walked all over London instead of taking the underground just so we could experience it on foot. super cool and fun. here are some of those photos I took back then. 010
Kamran Ayub @kamranicus.com · 16/06/2026It's a nice MVP. And now I can set up Copilot Automations to schedule it to start work before taxes are due. For this, I like to be in the loop so I log in manually but gave it a separate Editor login so it can't do much damage if it goes off the rails. But it did great last night. 000
