Good progress today, panels set for 2 of 9 bays, not sealed yet. Weeps on the bottom make sure water doesn't get trapped if it ever gets in (which it will during the build when it rains or snows, and hopefully never will after it's sealed on top). Each weep has steel mesh sealed in against insects.

That's it, all joists are installed and the entire platform is level, straight, and true 💯 I ran my 5 ft level across every corner and all the bays, 1/4, mid, and 3/4 span. Next is closing the bottom using plywood panels that sit in the bays, and sealing the edges.

Well, it's raining all day but managed to prep all the rest of the four joists in the garage so they are ready to install tomorrow once the rain dies down 🌄 Then it will be onto sealing the underside!

Good progress today: two more joists hung and they are indeed level. 🟩🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜🟩 Polished up my system for hanging them level all by my lonesome. Also the tree went bye-bye since it would have interfered with the studio in the future! Sad but we want to turn that area into a pollinator garden. 🐝

At night I can use the laser level to see there's a slight outward bow on the south side. There's probably a couple ways to relieve that, it's very slight, maybe 1/8". The other side is pretty much perfect.

Rim and frame is shimmed and bolted in place, just two stations left to do but unfortunately it's supposed to rain/storm all day tomorrow. Will pick it back up over the weekend or Monday. In the meantime, there's other work to get done and technically the joist assemblies can be made in the garage.

Outer rim is fully assembled and square! The next part is assembling joist cavities with a prefab underside as a pest/rodent barrier and way to support and protect the insulation. Since I can only work from above, I have a system I'll try for assembling one joist at a time and connecting the bays

It's a rainy day so I can't finish the next build step today, but I can finish the prep because I can do it in the garage. The wood has to be dry outside to finish the last step which is flashing the top. Tomorrow looks like a better day for that! The finished East/West rim beams are set aside:

Floor package delivery is tomorrow bright and early. I spent Labor Day weekend cleaning and sorting the garage. It's all set for working on this project now, everything has its place. Only thing remaining is wall organization, that's coming Thursday. I also installed lights over my workbench. 😍

So far there are over 200 specs for this studio build. So far specs consist of: - Control layers - Geometry - Design Input - Materials - Fastener schedules - Install methods But as the taxonomy evolves I might split or get more specific. And later phases like rough-in are not even fully done yet.

It's on! Ordered the floor package. Everything should arrive next Wed and I'll be ready to start. Over the long weekend it'll be cleaning and prepping the garage, site, and tool inventory. Fun stuff 😁 It's a bit surreal. It's going to happen or I'm going to fail spectacularly.

After like 4 quote revisions with supplier, I can safely say that while Claude can be verbose, pedantic, and inaccurate sometimes, it's way better at listening and understanding to what I need for revising quotes than humans. 😜 They keep taking stuff off I didn't ask, or substituting wrong products.

Working with Opus 5 Extra to create a skill that can build detail assembly diagrams and am very pleased with the results. This is the wall-to-roof transition I have detailed. This was definitely not a one-shot but many turns of refinement. But now I have something repeatable I can use.

I'm very close to ordering the first delivery of materials for the backyard build. First, I had to add two new helical piles because I was lazy a few years ago and didn't add the two I already planned. No shortcuts when it comes to spreading the structural load. 😅
