It's been difficult to hold back until #WaterfallWednesday, but here we are! Cottonwood Falls, Mount Thielsen, #Oregon. The spring that feeds the falls only pops out of the ground about 50 yards upstream! 🤩 I'd been planning and dreaming of visiting this spot for YEARS. #Hiking #Nature
A photo of an alpine landscape featuring a wide waterfall at middle left tumbling over a rough cliff and splashing across the cliff face on its way down to the lower left corner. Bright green mosses border the falls, while to the falls right all the way to the right edge of the photo is a jumbled slate like cliff face with occasional small plants hanging on between the light ashy tan rocks.
The upper portions of the photo above the falls and cliff feature tall narrow green pines on the upper left, their tops reaching out of frame, and similar smaller green trees on the right. And behind the small right side trees towers a formidable high craggy mountain face in the strong sun. It's rocky cliffs vary between ashen white and shades of dark charcoal, including the twin summit areas jutting into the rich blue sky.
The Sun strongly illuminates the scene from off frame to the far left, allowing the tall trees to cast shadows toward the right on the forest floor.
This is within The Mount Thielsen Wilderness in Oregon State. The peak is Mount Thielsen, which stands at 9,184 ft (2,799 m)

I was so into my camping situation yesterday, I forgot #Waterfall day! So here is a grab bag of sights from today's hikes! #Hiking #Nature #PNW #Forests
A photo of a tall waterfall dropping down a green moss covered cliff and blasting into a pool below. Small rivlets tin down the cliff alongside the main falls to it's right.
Tall green pine trees sit atop the cliff.
From the waterfall pool, a vigorous stem runs down toward the center of the image. In the foreground either side of the view of the falls are several small young green pines. And in the lower foreground are some green leaved plants with some of their leaves turning gold. And a big dark wet rock at lower right.A photo at a downward angle of a curtain of waterfall dropping off a low portion of a cliff. The higher parts of the cliff rise to either side, with the left side more visible showing tall regular pillars of basalt columns in light grey. The right side cliff face is obscured by a tall pine tree trunk in dark grey, and lots of green brush.
Above the cliffs are a variety of sizes and ages of green conifer trees that fill the view upwards.
Below the falls are scattered boulders, all covered in evenly colored green mosses, while the pool below the falls runs off from it's right side back toward the center bottom of the image in vigorous white.
The bottom foreground is a smattering of green leaved native rodidendrons and a very small fir tree.
A photo of a brightly sunlit forest of tall green pines teaching into the bright sky.
The sunlight comes in from the upper right.
Foliage of the forest floor green brush practically glows in the light. Up from the bottom right is a brown path that disappears into the brush at middle bottom, with a few bright spots from the sunlight.A photo of a wooden painted sign with arrows pointing upward that says 'CAMPING", and to the left that says "PICNICKING FALLS".
A wooden split trail fence starts in front of the sign and runs left off frame.
A grey paved single lane road runs from lower right, and disappears behind the sign.
To the left of the sign is a tall shrub with green narrow leaves and visible branches teaching up from the ground.
Big brown conifer tree trunks rise behind the sign, and a few smaller bushy young green conifers to the right.

It’s #WorldShorebirdDay and this Greater Yellowlegs is celebrating with some interpretative dance! #Birds 🪶
A Greater Yellowlegs lands in a very shallow marsh. The water is very calm so there is a reflection, and the yellowlegs looks like it’s running with its one leg up and its wings out for balance. The water is green and yellow as it reflects the colour of the early Fall reeds on the shore.

My favorite image from this past week's partial Lunar Eclipse! The crows, The Moon and Earth's shadow still rising over the lower slope of Mount Hood, the clouds, the silhouetted trees! 🤩 #Stunday #PNW #LunarEclipse #Crows #PDX
A photo of the partially eclipsed Moon rising over a distant sloped mountainside.
The top side of the Moon has a string of small clouds across it's face that are the same deep dusky blue color as the darkening sky.
The Moon itself has a pale ruddy color, and darker features are visible on its surface. The exposed lower portion is a gradient of blue.
Above and around the Moon are several scattered crows flying.
The foreground has silhouetted trees in the nearby landscape.

Sol Duc Falls surrounded by the lush forests of Olympic National Park. I especially like how the bridge adds scale to the scene. #PNW #WaterfallPhotography #NaturePhotography
Sol Duc Falls plunges through a narrow rocky gorge beneath a wooden footbridge, surrounded by tall evergreens, moss-covered rocks, ferns, and dense green foliage. A fallen tree angles toward the silky white water created by a long exposure. The scene feels cool, peaceful, and deeply immersed in the Pacific Northwest forest.

A close up of a blue lake surface with a jagged tall peaked small island with a few green conifer trees growing out of the rocky soil in a few places. The conifer trees are not as tall as the very abrupt pointy rock spires, of which there are four major ones. The whole island looks like it is composed of the same grey rock that rises steeply from the lake waters.
The shallows around the island have a green hue. The island's spires are reflected in the lake waters in dark blue.
The trees all seem to catch the sunlight, while most of the steep rock faces are in shade.
The water above and beyond the island is reflecting some other features in a blurry way that only gives the impression of colors and shapes.
This island is seen inside Crater Lake, Oregon in the USA.A wider perspective on the jagged spired island in the lake.
The small island appears darker, with it's few small trees still in sunlight, but the rock of the tall spires and faces of the island are a dark grey to almost black. The islands reflection in the lake appears more mirror like in very dark blue. To the island's left, there is a small section of land almost the distance of the entire island away, with hues of green indicating shallow surface under the water.
Towering over the whole scene of the island in the lake is a sheer mountainous wall rising across the lake and up into the light blue sky overhead. From the shoreline of the giant cliff face to about one third of the way up are many green shrubs and trees clinging to places they can make do on the steep surface. The rest of the cliff face is a light tan to grey, and even some light reddish grey. Above all the plants clinging to the cliff are areas too steep or strewn with tumbled down rock to allow plants to thrive. In these areas there are many rock outcrops, and vertical cliff faces in shadow from the high Sun out of frame. Also above the plants are a few large snow fields toward the left, and one down low near the shore on the right.
U along the top of the cliffs is a mountain top to the upper left the descends a little to the left, and much more of the descending slope running to the right. A few small patches of snow cling to the base of the steepest cliffs and near the tops of the mountain slopes. The height of the mountain can be seen by how small the full grown trees look all along the upper edges.
This is seen inside Crater Lake, Oregon in the USA.

Good morning Bluesky people! It's #WaterfallWednesday! This is Sahalie Falls on Oregon's McKenzie River! A very popular stop on the river, and one of two big falls on this section. #Hiking #Oregon #📷 #EastCoastKin #Nature #Forest
A photo selfie with me in a blue t shirt and a baseball cap with a big white beard, smiling and looking into the camera.
In the background is a big broad waterfall spilling over a tall cliff with a dense tall forest of green conifers at it's top. The ledge of the cliff is visible with an exposed grey stone ledge that runs right and left of the falls. Below the exposed ledge the cliff is undercut behind the falls with a lot of bright green mosses and ferns.
The falls widens out at it's bottom where it hits the pool of the river below, and spray shoots out all around.
In the foreground to the right are a couple logs covered in moss sticking out at upward angles over the river below.
The sky above the falls, and between the treetops is lightly overcast so that a little blue is visible through the clouds.
The lighting is fairly even and the sun is shining from high above out of frame.

A broad night sky photo with shades of mainly magenta across a large amount of the sky, and some red below that closer to the bottom of the frame, and a hint of green at lower right. Two bright magenta pillars of Aurora pierce downward in the sky, one just left of lower center, and another on the far bottom right. At the far left bottom is Mount Shasta riding from nearby smaller forested mountains that stretch all the way across the bottom of the image, and rising a bit on the lower right side.
Stars can also be seen through the colorful Aurora.
