Quiz time! Pepper or tomato? Which is which? Both from my garden, grown from seeds that I've collected. Picked today. Answer in the alt text! 🌱
Two elongated reddish-orange, garden grown veggies. Pepper on right. Tomato on left. Both longer than my hand (not shown).

40 years ago (October 7, 1986), Congress designated the rose as the floral emblem of the USA. This inarguably beautiful flower has many native species (often fragrant) that are irresistible pollinator magnets & should be a feature of every garden. Make plans to plant a native rose! #nativeplants 🌱

It’s #BannedBooksWeek, which means it’s the perfect time to dispel common myths and misconceptions about the prevalence and impacts of book bans across the United States. Here are five common myths about book banning that everyone should know the truth about 🧵

I haven't scrapped Dewey, but added this signage in my elementary library. It definitely boosted circulation. 📚

I've been saving and planting seeds from a packet of nasturtium for about 5 years now, and they've always been reddish-orange, so was very surprised by this color variation. 🌱

Do you wrap in newspaper? Keep in wood shavings? Pine needles? I wrap my canna tubers in newspaper and keep in a box in my basement and they always survive, though smaller ones do dry out.

Good eye! Yes it is fur, but I put it there. Was hoping that my dog's fur would dissuade any further activity in this garden bed. But alas, the culprit returned again and ate a third marigold plant. Only had 3 in that bed, so hopefully doesn't go for the tomatoes next.

I really wish I could grow these. Have tried twice, and both bushes failed. The extreme swings in temperature in the last few years are to blame.

SO there are some giant redcedars in the Land Board Park waaay out in the sticks. This grove is a small group of trees so large that the Idaho Land Board (the group in charge of dictating forestry policy in Idaho) decided to spare them from harvest and to name them after themselves 🙄. 1/7
A photo of a sign designating the land board park protrudes from a heavy leafy understory in front of a couple large Western red cedars. The sign says:

"LAND BOARD PARK
This grove of ancient cedars has been dedicated for enjoyment and use of future generations by the state of Idaho.
The Jordan tree standing below the road is estimated to be over 1,000 years old. It measures 17 feet in diameter and is thought to be the largest cedar tree in Idaho."

So they were clearly two different types, so maybe that's why one grew faster than the other? Though I am sure that I had potted the yellow one too deep initially. 🌱
