#BugFire burning north of Reno, driven in part by hot, dry, and windy weather. NW Nevada now sees 34 *more* #firewx days annual compared to early 70s. Local avg temps since fire started ~11°F above normal, made at least 5x more likely due to human-caused #climatechange. @climatecentral.org
Maps showing average temperatures near the Bug Fire north of Reno, NV is burning in an area where the average temperature from August 8-9 was 11.2°F above normal and made at least 5x more likely due to human-caused climate change, according to Climate Central's Climate Shift Index. Climate Central has also analyzed annual fire weather days in northwestern NV and found since 1973, there has been an increase of 34 additional days per year.

As of this AM: 42 uncontained large fires are burning across the NW, fanned by extremely dangerous fire weather conditions. Both central OR & northeastern WA now see at least three more weeks of fire weather days each year compared to 1970s. #wildfires #firewx #climatechange @climatecentral.org
South Central Oregon now sees 26 additional fire weather days annually compared to the early 1970s.Northeastern Washington now see three more weeks of fire weather conditions annually compared to the early 1970s.

Thanks to @sammyroth.bsky.social and LACI for inviting me to the #RoadTo2028 Summit! It was so inspiring to hear my fellow panelists (and Olympians!) Bea Kim and Melissa Humaña-Paredes speak about how climate change is impacting sports and what can be done ahead of #LA28. @climatecentral.org

Dangerous levels of #humidheat are forecast in parts of the #Midwest tomorrow, with some cities expected to see conditions made 100x more likely due to human-caused #climatechange. Humid heat makes it harder for our bodies to cool down via sweating. bit.ly/4eWt4UO #climateshiftindex

NOAA SPC has once again upgraded today's fire weather risk in western Colorado & Four Corners region to "extremely critical"--marking rare third consecutive day. Multiple existing fires will likely make further large runs today, & new ignitions willl take off quickly. #COwx #AZwx
NOAA SPC fire outlook for today, which again shows an upgrade to extremely critical risk in western colorado and near the four corners.

Climate change is making fire weather across the Western U.S. more likely. Western UT ( #CherryFire and #IronFire ) now sees 40 more fire weather days annually compared to the early 70s. South central UT ( #CottonwoodFire ), now sees 15 more fire weather days annually. For more: bit.ly/4xRPhf1

June 26, 2026: A day climate change made itself known across Europe by land, air, and sea. How did human-caused carbon pollution influence the likelihood of these conditions? It made them ~much~ more likely. Learn more via the Climate Shift Index: csi.climatecentral.org/climate-shift-index

Fifty years ago, many people did not know carbon pollution was changing our climate. Where will we be in fifty more years? We're writing that story right now. What kind of world do we want to live in and leave behind for future generations? #ShowYourStripes

🌡️Heat is dangerous. Add humidity, and it can become deadly. A new tool from #ClimateCentral, Climate Shift Index: Humid Heat, tracks the influence of climate change on daily humid heat conditions and related health risks around the world. ➡️Explore the tool: csi.climatecentral.org/humid-heat

Unbelievable. This would be a terrible blow to American science, writ large. It would decimate not only climate research, but also the kind of weather, wildfire, and disaster research that has underpinned half a century of progress in prediction, early warning, and increased resilience.
