Breaking News! The preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly for Sept. 29th came in at 3.18°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. This marks yet another record all-time high and the 123rd consecutive record daily high at 1.1°C above the previous daily record set in 1997.

teslaMusk. If we say that EV's came to market in 2008, 18 years later EV's represent 6.3% of all cars on UK roads. Time is short, we already have the fixes we need to massively decarbonise transportation without needing new tech. We lack the political will to implement the right decisions.

I watched the video in full. In the EU, France banned internal short haul flights where a fast train covers the route. Could Germany, Spain, Belgium and Austria adopt something similar? If an EV flight of double todays potential capability emerges, they only carry 30 people. Trains take 20X today.

V true. Whats happening with batts is incredible But we don't need a solution to short journeys when trains will outperform planes for years to come. The video mentions island hoping around Hawaii. Sure, there maybe some limited use, but this future tech will not save us in the time available.

Thanks Theo. Maybe my expectations were too high for an "in depth" article Carbon budgets are a great ref point. The UK's is virtually non existent and there's no viable way for aviation to be carbon negative / neutral in the remaining time. Nothing preachy - just physics #frequentFlyerLevyNow

It's a start, but how much wiggle room remains seeing as +1.5c is in our rearview mirror? We're way off 30 people being able to fly 125 miles @230mph. Whereas our existing tech enables 600 people to travel 125 miles in a comfortable hour Factor in the airport commute. Low and slow is the way to go

Heat map-style graphic showing monthly mean global surface air temperature anomalies from January 1850 to June 2026. There is a long-term warming trend evident in each month. Blue shading is shown for colder months, and red shading is shown for warmer months. Annotations are shown for the year of each warmest respective month. All of these records have occurred within the 2023 to 2025 period in this dataset. Anomalies here are calculated relative to a 1850-1900 baseline. Data is from NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI NOAAGlobalTemp 6.1.0.

Good that costs are low, but raw LCOE is misleading: it tracks electrons, not a reliable grid A no nuclear clean EU grid needs 55 days of storage for weather droughts. The UK has ~1 hour now aiming for 4 by the mid-2030s Incrementalism is dead. We need radical change to not spiral out of control

The p/reviewed paper says a zero-nuclear/carbon EU grid needs 55 days of energy storage. Given our tiny remaining carbon budget and the UK expanding storage from 1 to just 4 hours over 8 years, a back-of-envelope calc shows battery capacity must scale 300x #NoEasyTransition #aRadicalFutureAwaits

Great article highlighting our current storage capacity of 1 hour and the increased capacity from these new measures x3 or a combined 4 hours by early 2030's Energy demand is growing. How much energy storage will we need and by when, after these new projects go live? 1 wk = x40? 2 wks = x80? more?
