The 2025 IRENA report on Renewable Energy Costs is now available. The LCOE for variable renewable energy sources continued to drop, while dispatchable renewable energy sources saw slight increases in LCOE. Source: www.irena.org/-/media/File... 🧪💡🔌☀️💨💧🔋

A time series plot of the change in LCOE for Renewable power shows that in 2025 CSP is at $115/MWh, Bioenergy is at $89/MWh, Geothermal at $86/MWh, Offshore wind at $78/MWh, Hydropower at $62/MWh Solar PV at $44/MWh and Onshore wind at $33/MWh. A statement from the report reads: "Renewables retained their cost advantage over fossil fuels. Despite the plateau, renewables remained the most cost-competitive source of new electricity in most markets in 2025. Their advantage over fossil fuels also continued to widen. Since 2010, the LCOE of solar PV has fallen by 89%, CSP by 72%, onshore wind by 71%, offshore wind by 63% and bioenergy by 3%. In contrast, the LCOEs of hydropower and geothermal increased by 41% and 53%, respectively."

Good that costs are low, but raw LCOE is misleading: it tracks electrons, not a reliable grid A no nuclear clean EU grid needs 55 days of storage for weather droughts. The UK has ~1 hour now aiming for 4 by the mid-2030s Incrementalism is dead. We need radical change to not spiral out of control
