Everyone wants to be an urban planner, am I right?

Checking in on Granville pedestrian pilot. Very different feel compared to usual. Demonstrating promise - I think a long term key will be fostering many more establishments with patios, and an evolution of the retail offerings. Programming by @downtownvan.bsky.social is very nice.

One of the reasons my family and I were open to leaving Calgary was the increasingly poor air quality since 2016 or so. That city is “downwind” very often of fires north, west and southwest. Already short summers became more and more unliveable. Truly grim and obvious impact of climate change.

Are you one of the 69% of Vancouver residents (63% Metro) who wanted Granville Street to STAY a pedestrian zone & people-place after the #WorldCup ends? WEEK ONE of the 7-week extension starts TOMORROW, with emphasis on day-time & families. JUST BEING ON THE STREET SUPPORTS ITS SUCCESS! Come see!

I am biased, but I think Vancouver has the best fan experience of anywhere hosting World Cup. Helps to be one of the great multicultural cities.

This is cool. Shows Vancouver has the highest number and proportion of the metro’s population within 1 hr transit ride to its World Cup Stadium of any host.

Granville pedestrianization for World Cup seems so far to be hugely popular and successful. You could say it’s a test run toward the future. Our recently adopted Granville Street Plan lays out a fully pedestrian vision.

Kudos to Vancouver Planning Staff, great session at top of Harbour Centre (and views!) with lots of creative ways to get informed & engage on the new Higher Buildings Policy Review. I oversaw the last review & I’m open to more tall buildings OUTSIDE protected view corridors, in SMART STRATEGIC ways.
People interacting with information boards in the City of Vancouver Public EventInteresting way to see cumulative opinion on taller buildings outside protected, how tall, and what amenities and public benefits should be delivered with such projects. One of many great views from the circular room at the top of Harbour Centre where the information was held.3d printed model of the downtown Vancouver peninsula where people can add in new tall buildings of various heights to get a sense of scale. Striking how tall possible towers would be in context.
