One of the reasons my family and I were open to leaving Calgary was the increasingly poor air quality since 2016 or so. That city is “downwind” very often of fires north, west and southwest. Already short summers became more and more unliveable. Truly grim and obvious impact of climate change.

It will enable a density that will work for this novel apartment form, and reduce (or in some instances eliminate) land assembly required for small scale apartments. This lowers the barrier to entry for builders to participate in delivering new housing…./2

A big priority in our department is to streamline and simplify, not just for the sake of it, but so we can much more easily achieve priorities in city-building, including excellence in urban design and architecture. Clarity and simplicity also lend itself to a smoother design and review process.

Kudos to Vancouver Planning Staff, great session at top of Harbour Centre (and views!) with lots of creative ways to get informed & engage on the new Higher Buildings Policy Review. I oversaw the last review & I’m open to more tall buildings OUTSIDE protected view corridors, in SMART STRATEGIC ways.
