Tumultuous Clouds of Jupiter - From NASA Marshall Space Flight Center - flic.kr/p/2gj3QP4
This stunning compilation image of Jupiter’s stormy northern hemisphere was captured by NASA’s Juno spacecraft as it performed a close pass of the gas giant planet. Some bright-white clouds can be seen popping up to high altitudes on the right side of Jupiter’s disk. (The Juno team frequently refers to clouds like these as “pop-up” clouds in image captions.)

Juno took the four images used to produce this color-enhanced view on May 29, 2019, between 12:52 a.m. PDT (3:52 a.m. EDT) and 1:03 a.m. PDT (4:03 a.m. EDT), as the spacecraft performed its 20th science pass of Jupiter. At the time the images were taken, the spacecraft was between 11,600 miles (18,600 kilometers) and 5,400 miles (8,600 kilometers) above Jupiter's cloud tops, above a northern latitude spanning from about 59 to 34 degrees.

Curiosity oslavila na Marsu 5000 solů (přes 14 pozemských roků), během kterých přinesla úžasné objevy a 782k snímků z jejích kamer z kráteru Gale. Podívejme se tedy na trasu, jakou dosud zvládla. Je to vzdálenost ~38 km od místa přistání a po úpatí hory Aeolis Mons vystoupala do výšky přes 1000 m.

An ochre toned mosaic capturing a Martian landscape.

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover captured this view looking back down at the floor of Gale Crater from its location on Mount Sharp on Feb. 7, 2025, the 4,447th Martian day, or sol, of the mission. Curiosity was continuing its climb through a region of the mountain called the sulfate-bearing unit.

Mount Sharp is a 3-mile-tall (5-kilometer-tall) mountain made up of a number of layers, all of which formed in different eras of Martian history. By studying each layer, the rover's team can learn more about how the Martian environment changed over time from a warmer, wetter, and more Earthlike world to the freezing desert it is today.

The mountain is inside of Gale Crater, formed by an ancient asteroid impact. What appears to be a mountain range in the distance of this scene is in fact the crater's rim.

The color in these images has been adjusted to match the lighting conditions as the human eye would see them on Earth.

Curiosity was built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is managed by Caltech in Pasadena, California. JPL leads the mission on behalf of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington.

An ochre toned mosaic capturing a Martian landscape.

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover used its Mast Camera, or Mastcam, to capture this panorama in morning light on March 9, 2025, the 4,476th Martian day, or sol, of the mission. Steep hills on the left side of the panorama enclose wind-carved valleys on Mount Sharp, the mountain that Curiosity has been climbing for over a decade. Broken-up, rounded rocks throughout the foreground are part of the mountain's sulfate-bearing unit.

The butte in the distance at right is nicknamed "Gould Mesa." A band of cliffs and dark ridges near the top of the butte may be the first glimpses of boxwork formations, a kind of feature created by groundwater flowing through large bedrock fractures in the ancient past. Assuming that is how they formed, these could represent the last gasps of water found on this region of Mars before the planet dried out completely.

Before now, these features had only been viewed from orbiting spacecraft, to which they appeared as spiderweb-like fractures. This pattern of fractures stretches as long as 6 to 12 miles (10 to 20 kilometers) across the side of Mount Sharp. The rover's team expects to study these formations up close throughout the rest of 2025.

The color in these images has been adjusted to match lighting conditions as the human eye would see them on Earth.

Curiosity was built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is managed by Caltech in Pasadena, California. JPL leads the mission on behalf of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. Malin Space Science Systems in San Diego built and operates Mastcam.

A stratified (layered) rock with a bunch of weather-resistant nodules sticking out. The nodules are mostly parallel with the layering. 25cm stand-off.

NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS/Kevin M. GillA closeup of a prominent nodule sticking out from the rock. There is strong depth-of-field because it looks better than the focus-merged version I generated. 5cm stand-off.
