So this means we have to be living in a simulation, right? No actual human person would come up with this, and even if they did, nobody would agree this is a good idea and help to make it happen. Right? Right?! #strangerthanfiction

If MySpace were still a thing, you'd better believe the @marthawells.com #Murderbot quote “Just remember you’re not alone here.” I never know what to say to that. I am actually alone in my head, and that’s where 90 plus percent of my problems are." would make it onto my page.

It's like gaming. After a certain level, levelling up is basically pointless. Those same skill points would however go a long way to helping a level one weaponless player wearing nothing but rags. Redistribution makes life better for everyone.

Lieke @justlie.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
My (really shouldn't be a hot) take is that billionaires shouldn't exist, let alone trillionaires. Anything above 1B should instantly be redistributed equally among the person's countries of residence. Nobody can spend that much money, it would disincentivise endless exploitation, etc.

Also also "ai is being used to actively make people and society worse only so that there's less critical thinking and therefore less resistance against the rich assholes actively destroying our world, just like (most) social media but a thousand times more insidious"

It also shows the great disconnect between (a lot of) leaders and employees. I truly believe if leaders listened to their employees more than they talked, the whole world would be in a much better state. Simple "What do you need?" vs. "Do this the way I think is best."

I honestly believe that teaching language solely as a technical skill rather than instilling a love of literature at school is what's contributed to the rise of the far right in my country. Unfortunately only the wrong politicians seem to understand the importance of education.

Exactly. A two-party system is not a democracy. And nobody in power has any interest in making the US (or the UK, for that matter) an actual democracy.

Lieke @justlie.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
People outside of the US are not immune to this manipulation, see for instance the pushing of AI by tech billionaires, the Brexit vote, so many other votes against people's own interests... We don't have an American people problem, we have a too many rich assholes problem.

Fighting oversimplified generalizations with oversimplified generalizations is not going to stop this madness. Trump is the result of so many years of rich people controlling education, with 2 simple messages: "Don't think for yourself" & "Everything wrong is the fault of the Other"

A billionaire can get what they want with one donation to a political party. The rest of us must fight for years to get even the most basic rights recognised. Money destroys democracy, more than any other cause. The first step towards a better world is to stop the rich buying political outcomes.

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.

Yeah we've replaced appliances recently that might have lasted a bit longer, just to avoid being forced to replace something in the next few years when ai and online connectivity/subscriptions become mandatory. I can only hope it's just a phase.

Aside from all the good points already made, people are also way too slow at realising computers can be wrong. We know humans are flawed, so we question what they produce. AI is equally if not more flawed, but 'because computer' it has to be correct... Our education system is failing us.

At some point between blogs and the rise of social media, we forgot that we do have the freedom to curate and use spaces however we like, or to leave spaces that don't serve us. We aren't captive. But it can feel that way. Taking back control of our attention, our time, is critical for mental health
