Intuitive. I got out of the spiral by shifting to the idea of writing novellas. I had too many ideas for a novel, but a novella series felt right. No outlining, just meeting the page and letting what came come.

Spiral. Once I did find my way back to writing, I moved from short form to a novel. I received a hefty grant to write one, and so I tried-- and wrote act ones. I have like 8 or 9 act ones that just did not feel right, even though they were good writing. I was stuck in a spiral.

Abyss. This is really a 2023-2024 thing, but I stopped writing for awhile. The genocide in Palestine destroyed any sense I had that my writing was good for anything, that it was enough. I wasn't alone in this; quite a few Palestinian writers I know were experiencing the same crisis of faith.
