I visited south Lebanon today for the first time in a few months. Our trip took us to four villages along the so-called 'yellow-line' where we heard regular explosions. Locals said these were Israeli military demolitions of homes & other buildings on the other side of the yellow-line.

Also just to be very clear: the AfD have normalised and mainstreamed support for the far-right, but as @okwonga.bsky.social points out, they are the face of a broader movement. At the AfD rally last Sunday, there were many families who brought their kids, standing alongside people with Nazi tattoos.

Sharing this after returning from Magdeburg in east Germany, and going to report at an AfD rally in the nearby countryside. The current internal dynamic in Lebanon is not exactly new. I see it as a case of center vs periphery to an extent. Beirut and Mt Lebanon are the center, everything else is periphery. The will of the periphery has often been overlooked. This is why Hezbollah, Bekaa tribes, militias in Tripoli, etc

a lot of the schools in the area have emptied out. reports of attacks, mostly drone strikes, are still ongoing but heavily reduced... it's wonderful that some people will be able to return home in (relative?) safety. Many people I've spoken to have no homes to go back to though.
