After months of renovations on the house, two GotJunk? truckloads, a massive storage unit, and some well-placed buys and sale finds… I’m hosting Thanksgiving at my house tomorrow. I’m actually looking forward to this holiday season more than I have in decades.

A newly-decorated living room, featuring an LED neon over the hearth that reads “Now, here’s a little story I’ve got to tell…”, a decorated Christmas tree, and a sectional couch. If you saw the living room from a year ago, you’d doubt it’s the same house.

Tomorrow will be the first real action this dining room has seen in over a decade.

I haven’t lived in a suburban neighborhood since I was a teenager, and never realized the pure joy of Bulk Trash Pickup until now. I was certain I was going to have to whittle this mountain down one filled bin a week.

46 trash bags and one filled garbage bin, on the curb at my house. I’ve been told that “pickers” like to come by overnight to scavenge schtuff - when they hit the food that’s been expired for a decade, they’ll not be pleased.

Starting the third week in my late dad’s house. Haven’t closed my windows yet since the rainstorm in Ft Worth Friday night. Brubeck & Getz are the soundtrack as I do more purging on the house - working on the living room and office. Got through three cabinets yesterday.

A large curio shelf, piled high with … stuff. Costume jewelry, junk mail, candles, receipts, readers, tchotchkes. I don’t know why this shelf is a priority for me - likely because I see it every day.

Weather permitting, drivers are urged to avoid traveling on US 75 near Royal Lane from the evening of Saturday, September 9 through the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 10 as part of an ongoing project in the corridor. Scheduled closures include:
• Various lane closures on north and southbound US 75, with all lanes detoured to the frontage roads at times between Royal Ave. and Forest Lane from 7 p.m. Saturday, September 9 until 3 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 10.
• There will also be various ramp closures at the junction of US 75 and Royal Lane during this time.
