I've been saying this for a minute. If your candidate might be harmed by trans people not voting for them, then why aren't you calling your candidate?

I gave Braid an A+ back in my press days. I spent 100s of hours working on The Witness at PlayStation, fighting for it, getting it into conferences, and being Jon's personal wrangler. I even coined "Metroidbrainia" after it. I will not be buying Order of the Sinking Star, and neither should you.

Movie recommendation for tonight, Glorious It's a movie in which JK Simmons plays a lovecraftian entity who speaks with a guy through a rest stop glory hole. Yes, you read that right. No, you don't need to know anything else about it.

That's why they're so easy to "hack" into doing forbidden behavior. If you roll the dice enough times or change your prompts just slightly enough in a way that fuzzes those restrictions it'll just do the thing. Only sure fire way to restrict is options 2,3,&4

The main reason is that genAI isnt actually coded. It's basically just a giant soup of probabilities that determine its behavior based on all the training data fed into it. You can try to pen those outcomes in with restrictions but there are always weird stuff on the tails of the bell curve

I think trans people don't exclusively want cis people to not vote for democrats that are anti-trans. I think that trans people want cis people to raise almighty hell about it until every democrat is ten toes down on trans rights, rendering the issue moot.

Concept art is the most poisonous place to use Al. That's when your creative vision is the most fragile and undeveloped. When you see what the Al made and say, "That looks cool, I want my game to look like that!" it's like it's secretly swapping out your baby with its own.

And there's no way to identify which streamers have this turned on so how do you determine who you allow to stream your games?
010
Astra Juno @juno-astra.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
Not only is this gross from a streamer's point of view, but if I were a game dev I'd be absolutely livid at my game being fed into a genAI this way. There's no way to prevent this except by overstepping with copyright strikes and harming the community.

Savage.
"Devolver and its board are seeking shareholder approval to delist, believing becoming a private company is in the best interests of Devolver, its employees, its partners, and its Shareholders as a whole," a spokesperson for the company told GamesIndustry.biz.

"We’ve made an announcement about this.

"The purpose is simple and positive. Being private will allow the Devolver Digital team, especially the finance, legal, and executive team, to singularly focus on the long-term health of the company and less on satisfying the requirements of the public market, which have nothing to do with being a successful game publisher."

You would hope this is when we start putting emphasis on the people. Start crediting workers, give awards to individuals instead of studios etc. Studios should mean as little to players as whether a movie was made by Warner Bros or Universal

So if you want to own something, what do you do? In my opinion there is no replacement for physical. (And let it be said I completely support peoples' decision to take to the high seas when companies do bullshit like what Sony's trying to pull.)

and some studios don't allow their movies to be shared across platforms. And with how up their own asses all the major game publishers are about exclusivity, I doubt it'll ever happen anytime soon. It's a miracle we've gotten cross-platform play to be a thing in the last 5 years.

You could go for some kind of public digital distribution system kind of like a public library but the cost would be high, and you'd need to convince distributors to publish on that platform. MoviesAnywhere is the closest thing I can think of for what that might look like but it's owned by Disney...

dissolving with your entire digital library disappearing. There is not a world in which any company is just going to hand you a digital file without some kind of copy protection. I'm kind of amazed we're still doing it with music MP3s, but then Spotify is THE way to listen to music these days.

Astra Juno @juno-astra.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
This whole license system sucks, but how do you solve for letting people own digital things while preventing unauthorized distribution? It requires a radical re-imagining of the very way computers handle data. Digital platforms will always be vulnerable to de-listing and the company running it...

More random 2am thoughts: Digital distribution will never be able to support the same concept of ownership we have for physical things. It is impossible to "own" a digital copy of something. What does "ownership" mean when I can give infinite copies of my "owned" MP3 music to anyone I want?

Video games will endure, but there's going to be a lot of upheaval and uncertainty. The big publishers are rapidly racing towards that whole thermocline of trust thing and I wouldn't be surprised to see something akin to the 1983 crash as they try to get the next gen of consoles off the ground.
000
Astra Juno @juno-astra.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
Some additional random thoughts: If AI doesn't collapse soon, the games industry is going to instead. No one is going to buy a $1,000 console. Microslop is announcing games and then threatening to shutter those same studios a week later. Both are trying to pull away from multi-platform releases.

Fuck Sony for getting rid of physical media. One of the main reasons I own a PS5 is because I want to maintain a collection. I might as well just buy everything on Steam from now on and ditch consoles all together.

Loving Mina the Hollower, but I do not like how the health vials work at all. Makes failing at platforming unnecessarily punishing and hard to recover from a fight if you're struggling. Also Maxi can fuck right off. The density of the world and art design is fantastic.

I can't say why that's important to me, or why it should be important to you, but it is. As everything has become more and more digital over my lifetime I can feel that stark contrast more. Ephemeral vs physical. And I want to be here. I want to be present. I want to take up space.

And walking through the museum I felt that in full force. Some exhibits tower over you, others are small and detailed. Some take up entire rooms and ask you to walk through them. Nothing is flat, everything has texture. Art is more than pretty pictures. It is an experience. A physical experience.

Physical media has always been something I valued when it comes to books, music, movies, games. To some degree it's about ownership but there's always been more to it. It's why I also love Magic, D&D and physical board games. There's a grounding and tactile feel that just adds to the experience

Something else I did on Friday was visit the Museum of Modern Art, and honestly it had a really profound impact on me. For most of my life all of the art I've interacted with has been on flat screens or reprinted on paper. Walking through the museum I felt a... presence to the pieces.

Kids should be learning that AI output isn’t trustworthy, where it really comes from, and how it’s disrupting our ability to tell what’s real. They shouldn’t be learning that AI will make them more efficient or do their work for them because it can’t. That would be propaganda, not education
