Marvin must summon his courage and venture into the great wide ocean to find her. Congratulations to Alania Caridad Hinckson on OH, PEARL!, her debut picture book from Picnic Heist Publishing! Alania’s art is as vibrant and warm as her characters—just look at the gorgeous case cover. 🧜‍♂️🌊🪸

You’ve never seen an underwater adventure quite like this! Marvin the merchild is perfectly happy to play alone with his best friend, Pearl. Even though Pearl always hides, and he always seeks, sticking to his reef feels safer than asking the other ocean creatures to play. But when Pearl rolls away,
The cover of Oh, Pearl features an underwater ocean scene: Marvin the merchild peers over a rock at a glimmering pearl.

How many shades of blue can you name? When twelve-year-old Margot’s art teacher challenges the class to find and name eleven different versions of the same color, Margot can think of three right away: swimming pool. Denim jacket. First-prize ribbon. But then she starts thinking about home—

Wondering how to feel about the fact that the "Mom" in my child's recent comics (1-inspired by Jason Shiga): - gives their child a T-Rex as a pet (2) - can't live without coffee (3-not explicitly "Mom" but mom-coded!); - stays home to play games on her phone (4) - self-explanatory/accurate (5). 😅

What's that about using AI for "just for research" again?
Screenshot of "AI overview" that says, "Andrew Garfield and Robert Pattinson are not directly connected to the Twilight movie franchise. They did not star in the Twilight films, though they are close friends and were both vying for roles early in their careers. Andrew Garfield is known for his roles in films like The Social Network, The Amazing Spider-Man films, and Hacksaw Ridge, while Robert Pattinson is famous for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series."

Congratulations to Sara B. Shirley on the publication of A ZIGZAG LINE! Part mystery, part adventure, this book is set in a tight-knit rural community that reminded me of one of my all-time favorite settings, Avonlea. It would make great summer reading for the upper MG/young YA readers in your life.
