Tuxley now tries to get into his food bin when the pantry's open. He's having trouble keeping on weight as he approaches 16 so sometimes I do this intentionally, let him get a few good mouthfuls, then shoo him away.

Humanoids in SotW can now be paid off for their peace. The implementation is kind of basic right now, with some edge cases (Sceadugenga's followers will not do this; creatures won't accept payment again if hostilities resume) still to come.

5k done. I might've squeaked in under 30m, we'll see. Sprinted past some much-younger people the last few hundred metres. Last year I had to pull out of all my races with right knee pain, so I'm proud of this; I'm not young anymore. Trail run at Treherne next week.

RedHawks 6 - 5 Goldeyes. Fargo-Moorhead sweeps Winnipeg out of the playoffs. Poor umpiring misses several calls at 1st for the Goldeyes, and calls an out at 2nd for a basepath violation that would've given the Goldeyes a run. One of the worst-umpired games I've witnessed. A brutal end to the season

Starting to think about the fall again. Going to keep at stuff on electric but I've been neglecting my classical guitar since I finished some compositions last winter. Getting back to it later today with an almost 500 year old piece by Pietro Paolo Borrono

A couple months ago we planted native Prairie plants, including a bunch of milkweed. It's starting to get tall, and before I went to get supper, I saw this little caterpillar. After supper, it was in its chrysalis stage.

Limerence

It's been three days since you pressed me up against your car in the dark driveway.
You pinned my arms over my head and I wanted more-more pressure, more contact, more skin.
Now we're four states apart and I have nowhere to put my energy, no body to squish my flesh into, yet the memory still quickens my pulse and keeps me up at night. Half a week's sleep lost, and I would lose many more to keep these images on loop: Our socked feet rubbing under the table at the dinner party; your towel slipping and bunching under our grinding bodies on the pine needle slope; the kiss I stole in the dark between rooms while everyone else circled the kitchen counter; our accidentally matching button-downs; the single chanterelle we found in the woods.

I guess the lesson is to always pair the mouthpiece to the horn. On the left is my old Yamaha 30C4, on the right my new Laskey 75G. If I ever take the plunge and get a better horn, I look forward to doing this all again.

There's a section of "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" by Roald Dahl that's stuck in my head since childhood.
Men like Henry Sugar are to be found drifting like seaweed all over the world. They can be seen especially in London, New York, Paris, Nassau, Montego Bay, Cannes and St Tropez. They are not particularly bad men. But they are not good men either. They are of no real importance. They are simply a part of the decoration.

All of them, all wealthy people of this type, have one peculiarity in common: they have a terrific urge to make themselves still wealthier than they already are. The million is never enough. Nor is the two million. Always, they have this insatiable longing to get more money. And that is because they live in constant terror of waking up one morning and finding there's nothing in the bank.

The biggest problem has never been actually making something - if you have the desire and the time, you can do it - it's been getting strangers to care about your work. And now, everywhere, that's going to be even harder.

I got this for $5 at Valu Village in 1999. I think it's a first edition. At the end of high school I got in shit with my parents for staying out all night and partying (extremely unlike me), and spent the first week of summer holed up in my room, reading this, and learning to write C.

In this place we might be happy; blue-winged teal, blacks, bats, steam

from cows dreaming in frost. Love, you ask too many questions.

Let's agree: we are whole: the house rises: we fight; this is love

and old acquaintance. Let's gather the stars; our fire

will contain us; two, one.
