Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 7hI loved it when Micky and Michael sang with one another. That last verse is magical. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 8hDay 7: The Monkees - The Girl I Knew Somewhere Released in March 1967, this b-side was the first song to be issued featuring The Monkees playing their own music. It wasn't included on the Headquarters LP. It was written by Michael Nesmith. #ArtistFaveNonAlbumSingles www.youtube.com/watch?v=izIB...youtube.com(3b) Monkees - The Girl I Knew SomewhereYouTube video by 123msg321 262

Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 22hIt's a good 'in' for a pop kid. Just as Isolation Drills is a good 'in' for a classic rock kid. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 23hI'd keep them both in. They're part of it. No, the acoustic version. The electric version was with Greg Demos and a different drummer. 000
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Guided by Verde list: Aim Correctly Orange Jacket Bulldog Skin Mannequin's Complaint I Am a Tree Not Behind the Fighter Jet Little Lines Portable Men's Society Now to War [acoustic] Mute Superstar Bomb in the Bee-Hive The Flame that Cries Choking Tara ["creamy"] Running Off with the Fun City Girls 110
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026It is, yeah. I think it's very good, but it falls short of being truly great for me. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Some of those other tracks are from just before he hooked up with the Cobra Verde boys, and the 'classic lineup' were still pitching in, in ones and two. 110
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Answering my own question - there's Aim Correctly and Orange Jacket (both of which I love) and Mannequin's Complaint. Maybe more. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Could be. Are there many stray tracks from those sessions? 210

Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Little Lines, for sure. Only part of Mute Superstar thus far. But Not Behind the Fighter Jet has also flown into my radar. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I would still much rather listen to Do the Collapse than Mag Earwhig! That much hasn't changed. But yeah, Do the Collapse is flawed. And Mag Earwhig! isn't quite the shambles I'd remembered it as. Neither album should be anyone's introduction to Bob. I think we can agree on that. 220
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Wrecking Now is probably my second favourite track and gets full marks from me. 110
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I do like Strumpet Eye. But yeah, Liquid Indian is very nice indeed. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Surgical Focus gets a full 5 stars (or 10 points) from me, and is my favourite track on the album. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Yeah, Hold on Hope is fine. It's very commercial, and I think one reason Bob ended up hating it is because they tried to foist some hip modern remixes on him, which he flat out vetoed. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I like this version of Teenage FBI more than you do, but I understand why it annoys the purists. We've discussed it before, and my favourite version is the all-but-forgotten third version. 010
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026My fave dB's track is, and will always be, From a Window to a Screen. 110
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I Am Produced. Good, but over before it's begun. Can't Hear the Revolution. Decent energy but slightly grating. Learning to Hunt. Atmospheric but ever so slightly dull. Everything else I could easily live without. 120
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Not Behind the Fighter Jet. Hooky if murky. Mute Superstar. Started to grow on me. Loved the bridge. I Am a Tree. Still hate the stinging guitar and don't really rate the song, but it's well produced. Bomb the Bee-Hive. The song didn't do much for me, but the performance had great energy. 120
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Best songs: Now to War. Sublime, but prefer the other version. Choking Tara. Ditto. Little Lines. A new fave. Previously overlooked. Jane of the Waking Universe. Classic GbV sound, but never manages to be fully great. Sad if I Lost It. Ditto. Bulldog Skin. Good, but ultimately too Southern boogie. 120
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026OK, general thoughts first. I can't remember how I rated it last time, but I will say that it's better overall than I remembered it. And longer. A couple of songs I didn't take note of before clicked this time. But overall, I'd say there are no 5-star recordings. A few 4-stars though, to be sure. 120
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026True. They had to play him the multitracks where they could hear him screaming as he went for his drum fills. "See - that's you!" 110
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Day 6: The Hollies - On a Carousel Released in February 1967. An utterly sublime single. Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Earwhig always sounds so thrown together from disparate eras. 110
Jules Gray @julesgray.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Bob pretty much sings it like Michael would have. NBtFJ is one of those that I never really noticed. *plays it* Ah, yeah, it's decent. Could have done with a clearer vocal and better production, but hey. 110
