Then the homely sound of a distant train
Or the humming of an aeroplane
Or the sweeping of a passing car
Makes you feel that you really are safe
You're secure
Then you hear people talking downstairs
You don't feel worried and you don't feel scared
You hear the sound of the telephone
Somebody answers and you know you're not alone
NOW YOU'RE SLIDING, SLIDING, SLIDING INTO A DREAM
AND YOU'RE FLYING, FLYING TO A PLACE YOU WANT TO BE
In your dreams
Now I'm here lying in my bed
And thoughts of you run in my head
It's dark and starry outside

Then I hear someone shouting in the street
And the sound of homeward walking feet
A late night TV show
