Celebrating 250 years of independenceThis Fourth of July, we celebrate 250 years since the birth of the United States. A few years later, the First Amendment was adopted in 1791, protecting freedoms of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition.

Since 1969, FTRF has worked to protect First Amendment rights in libraries, standing against censorship and defending access to information.

The First Amendment helped define the freedoms that citizens would enjoy within it.
