I get that! At least there’s always the ability to “share the pad”. Had a lot of great multiplayer experiences that way tbh.

Delighted to have a chapter in this book alongside so many amazing contributors. I have co-authored a chapter with @fergus.oolong.co.uk all about "Embracing Monotropism and Flow" www.routledge.com/It-Takes-All...

I’m not sure about social services, but I’ve found that people in general are really resistive to written information when what they want is the ability to adapt in real time, or they don’t know. Both are things they could say, but seem scared to express.

There’s no such thing as a single accessible solution, because different people have different needs

I just think they should be optional modes, not the entire focus of the game. They shouldn’t be required to be able to play Games always want to support multiple play styles, after all

Meme of a teacher pulling a child into a room where other children are playing
Teacher: “You’ll have more fun with the others.”
Child: “But I was already having fun…”

The teacher is labeled “GAME DEVELOPER” pulling the child toward “MULTIPLAYER/BATTLE ROYALE”

That only works when everyone else is treating it as that - when the world becomes a stage for speedrun towards “endgame”, it no longer serves a purpose to inhabit that world

ROCKSTAR UPDATE: Keir Starmer was just asked about the Rockstar firings in Parliament today where he described the situation as "deeply concerning" and promised it would be looked into by government ministers. Not that a Starmer promise is worth much, mind.

Did they not watch Sesame Street 🤣 too true. I keep feeling like “this was everywhere. You couldn’t avoid it. How could you not learn this?”

All they had to do was say they couldn’t help with lifting the scooter (probably a liability thing), are you ok with some alternative? Just. Cancelling it on you unilaterally? Awful behaviour, sorry that happened

“But people don’t want those ugly things they don’t need” Yo if you don’t see the beauty in someone being able to access their home, then I don’t know how to help you. Your world must be so drab. If you buy a place with a ramp, you just expanded your friendship pool. How’s that an ugly world?

What society thinks disabled people want to hear: “You’re so brave!” “We look past your disability!” What disabled people actually want to hear: “We acknowledge your disability and will happily accommodate your needs.” “You can marry without losing your benefits.” “We’d like to offer you the job.”

That’s pretty much the mechanism of white supremacy. People are always like, but why do you care? And I’m like???? Cause we’re next. It’s always someone else.

Funnily enough, “communication is a two way street” was always used to describe why I was wrong, not why the “other guy” also needed to try harder

The decision to use it was at least partially because it’s far more readable to more people on screens. Of course, the point in official communications isn’t for many people to get them, it’s to look official. I’m sure you can see why it’s a DEI frivolity to favour inclusion over looking good.

I’m glad to see, for a change, that the takeaway is “clearly we need more resources” instead of “we need to stop diagnosing / recognising so many people”. Less diagnosis doesn’t mean less need, it means less needs being met.

Maybe the issue is that we’ve built a society that requires vehicles to participate in, in many instances, and if we want to lower spending on the patch, we should look for an underlying fix?

Joe McGeoch Osborne @jubjef.bsky.social · 08/12/2025
Unfortunately, some folks seem insistent on comparing needs to wants. If taxpayers that “fund” it can’t afford a car, and also have a need for it, then they should also have access to help, right?

Joe McGeoch Osborne @jubjef.bsky.social · 08/12/2025
Trying to treat everyone with a given diagnosis uniformly will never help, that’s why these programs are *criteria* based, not condition based. Impact on daily life has as much to do with environment as it does condition.

Interesting, you’re right, I double checked and *I* have used YouTube on switch. I wonder what I’m thinking of, because there was something about them not wanting it to be seen as a general purpose device. It escapes me 😂 🤞 fingers crossed for getting the videos, ofc
000
Joe McGeoch Osborne @jubjef.bsky.social · 08/12/2025
If it’s anything like the switch, iirc: because Nintendo see it as a “games” device, and for that reason, don’t approve streaming apps. They don’t really treat it as multimedia, and I wonder if it’s because they don’t want to compete with smaller tablets?

An odd argument attempting to justify inaccessibility is that building things accessibly would only benefit a minority of the population. However, that is not the case at all. More people benefit from accessibility than inaccessibility.

I need space between tasks. I need time to transition. I can’t just jump from one thing to another, and that’s not laziness—it’s how my brain works. Monotropism isn’t a deficit. It’s just a different type of focus.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine: The Inventory tab has a 'new' marker on it, yet no category has a 'new' marker and after going through all of them... I can't find any new items and the marker won't go away. Please, my OCD requires that I am able to make the 'new' marker go away 😓

When I didn’t have “I’m autistic” I had “I need a minute”, “I don’t understand”. I had a lot of ways to communicate my needs. Better than what to many is a vague medical label. I was still autistic. #AutismAcceptance means accepting all autistic people, not just ones with “certificates”.

It absolutely does, if you can exit and save from any point in the game. It doesn't address other valid concerns / needs for more flexible saving, though

You always have the ability to stick by the choices you made. If you'd want to retrace them if the feature existed, it sounds a lot more like you'd appreciate the feature

It’s so so so awesome that there’s a lot of positivity around autistic traits in Bones, and it’s so important for autistic representation in media to exist and not just hint. The only way you convince folks it’s not a dirty word is by saying it out loud, not hiding it, what a shame on the network

I should point out that’s an “afaik” on the first claim as well - it could well be very convincing smoke and mirrors on the part of first party games, and I don’t have any insider info on the Xbox dev tools
000
Joe McGeoch Osborne @jubjef.bsky.social · 02/04/2025
Afaik, if a game supports the system narrator then enabling it in system settings is enough - but if a game has T2S of its own, it won’t necessarily see this setting
110
Joe McGeoch Osborne @jubjef.bsky.social · 02/04/2025
Xbox, at least, has a system T2S (Narrator) that’s available to games - it’s used by Minecraft

Accessibility features aren’t doing much if players don’t know about them! It’s great that Nintendo are including, and making sure we know about, system level accessibility for the Switch 2!
