I didn't realize the ASPCA retired the super sad Sarah MacLachlan commercial and now upgraded to a cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U" with all the animals in HD now. Dammit 😭.

How it feels recommending the book Aftertaste by @emoria.bsky.social. One of my favorite reads this year.
The meme image from the Hobgoblin Beer ad where it says "What's the matter lager boy, afraid you might taste something?" but in this case it's for the book Aftertaste by Emoria Weidner where it now says "What's the matter boy, afraid you might trans your gender?" and now featuring illustrated versions of the book's characters superimposed over the figures in the pictured tavern now all drinking bottles of clearly marked Yuri.

We're hiring! We're looking for a Writer and Narrative Designer to join the Fallen London team at a senior or mid level. This position is permanent, remote, and full time, which for us means 35 hours a week. #GamesJobs
Night. The House of Chimes - a tower which you might immediately think of as Big Ben - is adrift in the River Thames. It still seems to be keeping time. In the background, a large, alien building looms over the city of London.

Still holding out hope for maybe a time jump with the actors now older. I read the book it was based on and think it would be very interesting to have them go to Alaska to investigate that baker who pulled a "Surviving The Game" with women.

RSVP LINK IN BIOMeet the Author!!
Emoria Weidner is an author as well as a theatre professional and teacher. She worked at mainly one theatre for fifteen years, atraid of coming out as trans because of the fear that it would hurt her acting and teaching career.
Coming out in 202l as nonbinary, and more truly in 2025 as c woman both hurt her acting and teaching careers. She was right. And it doesn't fucking matter, because she would have been happier if she came out sooner. Bowing to accommodate people who cannot see you means scraping your face against the ground. Eventually, you start to lose your face.
Attertaste is her first novel. It you would like to support her work and help her continue writing, please consider visiting www.patreon.com/emoriaweidner and becoming a patron, where new chapters of upcoming novels will be posted regularly.Summary
The novel takes place in a magical-realist world where Yuri (lesbian), Yaoi (gay men), and Hetslop (hetslop) are not genres of fiction, but drinkable hallucinogens. When you want to have a delightful evening, a glass of yuri will deliver a unique fantasy directly to your imagination, determined by the vintage you choose to imbibe. And Simon? Well, despite being a 24 year-old man, Simon drinks a LOT of yuri. He just thinks it tastes better than hetslop or yaoi, you know? It doesn't mean anything that his preferred fantasies are of lesbians. Obviously. Couldn't mean anything else. About his gender. Or anything like that. Sure, Simon got a job as a server at a yuri bar, but that's just because it was convenient. Nothing to read into there. At all. Then, one night, a very intimidating Woman arrives at the bar and orders the most toxic drink on the menu. Before Simon knows what is happening, he finds himself serving Her in more ways than he could ever have imagined. And She has plans for him. And does it seem like her eyes are literally on fire? And are those fangs???
Not that Simon would be into that, or whatever. Obviously not.
Being made to serve a Powerful, Scary, potentially Monstrous Woman? Definitely not something he'd ever fantasized about.
Definitely not the subject of yuri after yuri he drank alone, nightly, after each shift. No. Simon doesn't want this. Obviously. It's not Like he's a girl or anything.
19 Chapters, 112,000 words (print edition is
352 pages single spaced at 1lpoint font)
No audiobook.Content Warnings
• Aftertaste is a novel only suitable for mature readers. It contains dissociation, gaslighting, violence, death, murder, gore, body horror, explicit sex, mild domestic violence, some BDSM, and a fantasy equivalent of alcohol/drug consumption and abuse.
• There are several passages where the idea of how much consent the lead character is capable of in their situation is intentionally muddy. This dubious consent is addressed as such later in the book, when the character understands the situation better.
• Sexual assault and rape are mentioned and discussed.
There is a scene where rape is threatened, but does not occur. This scene still qualifies as a sexual assault, however.
• The concept of forced-feminization, and what it might mean for people who fantasize about it, is explored regularly.
• Suicidal ideation, and a story about a suicide in the past, occur brietly.
• Dysphoria, internalized transphobia, and external transphobia are core motifs of the book and are present in every chapter. This is a story about surviving these things, but please use caution if reading the struggle of a young trans character finding themself through a lot of uncertainty is triggering for you.
• There is a detailed, chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the individual content in the back of the book and online.
• Love yourself, love your boundaries, and take breaks from the book if sections are hurting too much.

It can be a balancing act and sometimes weird choices can be made in the process of localizing, but I agree that the ultimate objective is to communicate the story clearly to the target audience. I don't always like every decision, but consistency is key so everyone is on the same page.

After LA Noire, I've been jonesing for more big historical open world games like that. I would love a grimey '70s NYC set game or early '80s Chicago a la Michael Mann's Thief.

What’s a poster you had in your room growing up? Growing up in the '90s they talk about about what bands, or fast cars, or pretty ladies the boys had up on their walls. This was my lady straight from the Nintendo Power centerfold 😁.

The film is written, directed, and co-stars Hitoshi Ozawa, a legendary Yakuza actor who is a villain in Yakuza 0, who got his fellow legends involved. This was his passion project inspired by one of his best friends, a trans woman, and he worked with the community for representative casting.

There's a contagious joy I get from reading Magica Riot. You convey a real sense of warmth and support that earns my trust with the characters while showing that their queerness emboldens them to rise above tropes of relationship drama to celebrate love and their true selves.

It is a book that feels dangerous and full of psychic damage, but somehow still fun and retains a gentleness that keeps you safe. To those with an open mind and heart (who also aren't squeamish), to those who ever felt lost in life or figuring themselves out, I can't recommend this book enough.
