26 of the 27 EU member states use proportional systems, as well as the EU Parliament. If Mark Carney believes this is where the international order will be rebuilt, let's join them and embrace the same democratic standard.

Rural Liberal voters and urban Conservative voters keep getting shut out even when they show up in huge numbers. A system that rewards geography instead of voters is not a real democracy. Proportional representation would finally make every vote count.
A two panel meme from the animated show Invincible. In the first panel, the character Mark looks frustrated. Text above him reads Rural Liberals and Urban Conservatives, and text below him says So, when do we get representation. In the second panel his father Nolan points confidently at him. Text above reads First past the post and text below says That is the neat part, you do not.

Politicians love to warn that the other side has a radical agenda. Yet, they don't seem too concerned that first past the post means they can win a majority with less than 40% of the vote. Fear alone will not fix democracy. Proportional representation will.
A four-panel meme from Star Wars Episode II showing Padmé and Anakin in a meadow. Anakin says the opposition has been taken over by extremists. Padmé smiles and asks if he will pass proportional representation so they cannot win a majority with only 40 percent of the vote, then looks concerned when he does not answer.

Canada’s system traps us in large big-tent parties, forcing endless infighting and floor crossings. Proportional representation would let Canadians of every kind win seats for what they believe in instead of fighting for control of one tent.
Graphic with headline reading “Big tent parties lead to big tent infighting and instability.” Text explains that Canada’s electoral system forces the entire right into one party, creating divisions and instability, and that proportional representation would let Red Tories, progressive conservatives, libertarians, and social conservatives all win fair representation without being trapped under one banner. Includes a CBC headline about MP Chris d’Entremont leaving the Conservatives because of Poilievre’s leadership style.

A party can win a “majority” with less than 45% of the vote. That’s not democracy. Newfoundland and Labrador’s results show again how first past the post rewards false majorities and leaves most voters without representation. #nlpoli
CBC News graphic showing Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2025 election results: PC 44.3%, Liberal 43.5%, NDP 8.3%, Independents 3.9%. A note reads “Their win sets a new benchmark in this province for forming a majority government with the smallest vote share,” highlighting how the winning party gained a majority with less than 45% of the vote.
