The number of retirees who drive for my local refugee support group! SO MANY! Driving folks to appointments, to work, to the food pantry, they're such a lifeline.

Today at the gym someone putting away a bench said “pardon me” and I said “you’re pardoned!” and someone else said “everyone is pardoned” & I didn’t understand why she sounded so grim until someone else said viciously “we’ll just write a REFLECTIVE ESSAY about it” So That's a morning vibe

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

(With thanks to @miriamanzovin.bsky.social) Sanhedrin 75: A man set his eyes upon a certain woman and passion rose in his heart, to the point that he became deathly ill. The doctors said: He will have no cure until he has sex with her. The Sages said: Let him die.

Listen none of us even has to care about Macklemore! These statements are so clear. “We can’t play where we can’t say Free Palestine.” That is where the solidarity lies, that is why this is so exciting.

I also think it is great that the kind of mega rich guy who mostly operates behind the scenes in these situations is having his name blasted everywhere and framed, correctly, as the person who actually made the call not to exculpate Ed, but as a reminder of how business decisions in music get made

IMO, the solution should not be to browbeat people into an old standard, but rather allow people to wear whatever they want. If someone can wear ducky pajamas in public, you can wear tailoring in any cut, color, and material. As options open up, dress can then be a source of pleasure.

It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.
Bobby Mars on Twitter writes: "If you wear a collared shirt and nice shoes out to the bar in the rust belt, multiple people will ask you if you just came from a wedding. Aesthetic standards for men’s attire are horrendously low"

I've said this before, but this action was truly life changing for me and my activism. I learned so much about "how to be uncomfortable" and "how to make people feel good about financial requests"! This spring, that let me participate in a group that raised $150k for immigration bail bonds. 😍

one of the things I will always be proudest of is organizing over 200 Trek fans from all over the world to send food, water and supplies to the WGA writers on strike in 2023 - partly because those writers are part of our community, but also because more broadly that’s just what Star Trek stands for

If I can’t find a husband who can trigger a worldwide scandal by painting a picture of me wearing a hat then I’d rather just die alone tbh
In 1905, Henri Matisse sent shockwaves through the art world with Femme au chapeau (Woman with a Hat), a portrait of his wife, Amélie, painted in bold color and loose brushstrokes that defied convention. This exhibition traces the painting’s controversial history and explores its lasting impact on modern art.
