When I was born in the ‘80s I had a GBS infection. They accidentally put me in a room with a baby that had meningitis for a hot second. My mom still tells the story of how my dr was infuriated at the carelessness. This is also infuriating for these babies and their caregivers.

Fun fact: once in college, I left a load of laundry in a dorm washing machine and totally forgot about it until two weeks later I was like “huh, this pile of laundry that’s slightly crunchy looks like some clothes I’m missing.” Yep. And 20 years later I was diagnosed with ADHD.

Yep. Both parties are guilty of this. Before my mom gained control of my grandmother’s finances, my grandmother was sending checks AND had a direct debit set up to a republican fundraising clearing house. She gave money every time a republican candidate or org asked. They asked a lot.

This happens to me time I am around someone with an accent or different way of speaking. Scotland, people of color when I was in gospel choir, talking to international students. I already have a Texan accent but around southerners with deeper accents it definitely gets more pronounced.

22 years ago today one of my best friends died at the age of 21 after two years of cancer. While those of us who loved her keep on living, I still wonder what her life would be like now if it hadn’t been cut short. Laurie was kind, smart and so creative. And she is not forgotten. #endcancer
