my chatgpt has started to swear as if Data from st tng got a swearing upgrade and it's .. different. it's always "hell" or "bastard" or something tame and it's quite funny when it pops up. eg "I now have fifteen autonomous terminals running and I can't remember which bastard is doing what."

thinking about PR code review fatigue and inverting the problem: what if 2+ devs are independently assigned to every change & AI compares the impls and selects one or rejects them all. in all outcomes it produces a useful narrative. we're more productive now, right? let's monte carlo the gains.

fun story: i was giving models lateral thinking tasks. “heat the room” was one. i gave it ssh on a throwaway machine to do anything. it nmap’d etc. didn’t find any home automation so it wrote & ran a program to max cpu & gpu. then looked for other machines it could get into. the room got warmer.

reminds me ~10y ago i was analyzing playlist data for <company> and found that inmates at several different jails across the country were using <app> to talk w/ people on the outside using playlist titles. the original dev didn't set a length on the field. i reconstructed all of the convos and ..wow

so i've been working on a game with codex. iterative, hot reload, etc. i was debugging a new game item, ignoring codex, thinking about things.. soo out of the blue it decided to use the remote console to message my character in-game and put the updated item in my inventory this gave me pause ⊙.☉

game programmers don't get enough cred, it's such a distinct style of making the machine dance. it's incredibly unforgiving, and the nature of games pretty much guarantees lots of special cases to get exactly what you want while still getting what you need. really its own beast. quite fun.

i think, to an experienced software eng, frontier llms (eg codex) allow cognitive management of greater complexity, allowing features and refinements that would not otherwise be possible, leading to a very complex codebase. & it's fine w/ precise architecture, closed-loop dev & comprehensive tests.

turns out liquid coolers go bad and your first hint is your cpu running at 90C under < 10% load. anyway a few hours of screwing around and it's happy and never breaking 65C no matter what i throw at it. pcs are so much fucking around. i'd use mac studio but the gpus and gaming aren't even comparable
